Hello everyone,

First of all, I am interested in modding my wii and I thought that your guide explained everything pretty well. I am pretty new to this, as I only hacked a psp and jailbroken an iPod touch. My first (most basic) question is that in the links you provided in the email, there are several files to download. I am running 4.2U, so I downloaded 42mod.zip. Is that all I need, or do I have to download the cios? If so, then all I need to do is unzip the '42mod' file and I am ready to insert it into the wii?

Thank you for understanding.

Hey guys,

BTW, I will probably be asking a lot of questions. Anyway,

I was reading through the guide, and had a question (again) on the part below.

Installing a Trucha'd IOS into slot 236.
Run 1. IOS236 Installer v5 MOD

When it says Run 1. IOS236 Installer v5 MOD, where do we do this from? The Homebrew Channel? I have not started to mod my wii yet, so I don't know how it will really look. Please try to be patient with me.

You only need to download the 42mod.zip.
Extract it to a SD card and insert the SD card in your Wii.
Then just follow the guide.

IOS236 Installer must be run from the HomeBrew Channel.
The first step is to install the Homebrew Channel.

I've got an older Wii already softmodded running 4.0 . I just want to update to 4.2

I run the 236 installer v5 mod, then I run YAWM Multimod, select 236, select my SD Slot...

Everything starts running/patching fine. Everytime it gets to cIOS249[56]-v21d2x2.wad "Installing Content #19 ... "

FREEZES. Everytime, and I've tried multiple times. Made sure the wad was fine, still freezes. It does'nt seem to actually lock-up the system, as I can reset. It just gets stuck here everytime.

What else can I try? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe it's your SD card.
Try a different one.
Or format your SD card and try again.

if only a system menu 4.0U --> 4.2U is the goal, installing 249 is not needed....you only need the SM wad and the SM IOS (IOS70 in this case)....having said that, did those two install prior to your Freeze-up?

QUOTE(eQUIV @ Apr 2 2011, 09:00 PM) Everything starts running/patching fine. Everytime it gets to cIOS249[56]-v21d2x2.wad "Installing Content #19 ... "
FREEZES.
have you tried downloading the wad again (or the Mod-kit if it was part of a kit)? maybe it got corrupted during the download/building process....
either way, instead of trying to re-get and install d2x2, maybe try d2x3 or the new d2x4-beta instead...(d2x3 can be gotten from Modmii; link in my sig)

Thanks guys - I just set up everything to run of a hard drive bypassing the SD card and gave the Wii back to my friend. So far, it seems to be working ok. It had been updated by using the files from this thread a while back to Wanin's Rev 20 and Hermes Rev 5 - I was just hoping to updated it to the dx2 Rev 20...

But, at this point, if its working without a problem, I'll just leave it...besides, his kids were bugging me to get it back to them....

Thanks for your help. I just tried the d2x3 and had the same problem. I couldn't find the d2x4-beta. Where abouts is it? I am relatively noobish to all this, so you're saying i don't really need the cIOS249 wad? So should I just delete the file and see if the rest install without problems?

IOS249 is used for homebrew app loading...your initial post says you were softmodded already and only wanting to update to 4.2U....if that's the case, you *should* already have a functional 249....(whatever version that may be is a big ole ?? though....) ...so yes, delete that from your card (or move it for the time being--it can be re-addressed later) and install the others (i would assume however, that 249 should be at/near the end of your list; if so, the others may have installed).... what does the wii say your SM version is at?

just a thought....i'm wondering if you may have a Ninty stub at 249 (i think that would prevent an install there).... can you check the version of 249? (you can do that with syschk or MMM for sure, maybe YAWMM....)

Well I installed without cIOS249, and all the others installed succesfully -- however when I checked my system settings it still say 4.0U. The only reason I've been trying to even upgrade is because I can only get into the Wii Menu via Maintenance Mode. (-) + (+) upon loading. If I don't use maintenance mode the Menu locks up as soon as it loads and makes a nonstop beeping noise and I have to reset.

I thought perhaps upgrading would resolve this problem, but it appears to not even be upgrading properly.

Here are my SYSCheck results..

hmmm...that adds quite a different dimension to the whole thing..... i don't have much experience with what you're describing (though i would have probably suggested doing what you're doing first...)

do you have bootmii installed (boot2 or IOS?)...if so, do you have a NAND back-up from when it was working properly....i'm not suggesting restoring at this point yet....what you need is to get the attention of MauiFrog, DeadlyFoez, or GiantPune...they are probably the best that GBATemp has to offer when it comes to fixing things like this....

...i'll do some searching, if i find anything i'll report back...hopefully someone more experienced will come to the rescue though....

EDIT: your syscheck looks good....apart from you 249/250 being a little outdatd (that doesn't explain the system menu problem however)....you have a patched SM IOS (IOS70) already...so it appears you should be able to just install SM4.2 and be good to go....

Well i did upgrade the system Menu, thanks again for your help. Unfortunately it's still freezing on me and I can only boot into Maintenance mode.

Perhaps the problem is hardware? I'm curious as to what doesn't get activated in Maintenance mode that does get activated normally that may be causing the freeze?

Try this
Download- http://www.mediafire.com/file/5injmzznzxo/..._fix-det1re.zip
QUOTE1. Copy "apps" and "fstoolbox" to your SD card root and overwrite if asked.

2. Startup the Wii and boot HBC (you can use BootMii, Preloader or the Maintainance mode)
to do so.

3. From HBC, run FSToolbox r50 and follow the on-screen instructions until you see your
Wii's file struct (import, meta, shared1, shared2, sys, ticket, title, tmp).

4. Navigate to shared2/wc24/ and replace any file with the one from SD by pressing PLUS.

5. Navigate to shared2/wc24/mbox/ and do the same there.

6. End the app and restart the Wii. You will get a message that your Mail account is broken
and will be restored.

7. ????

8. PROFIT!

Doing the steps above will remove all your saved friends and all messages from your

If that does not help, do a system format from the wii setting menu. You may wish to backup your saves first if you care, you will lose them if you format. Use savegame manager, also a nand backup is not a bad thing to have.

Tried fstoolbox, overwrite the files, reset... same issue. Freeze. Backed up savegames, tried Wii System Format... it's been sitting formatting for about an hour now. I believe it's stuck. I can move the cursor etc.. but it just seems to be stuck at the formatting screen.

What now?

Hello,

Hope someone can help me with this semi-brick...
I've followed your guide, used 43mod package, however WAD install gave me an error...
now the Wii does not load system menu on normal boot - just blank screen

Installing cIOS & Patching the System Menu IOS (The good stuff!)
Run 2. YAWM Multimod Batch
It should automatically start installing the neccesary wads you need.
Make sure it says "0 failed" at the end, and after a few seconds it will return you to The Homebrew Channel.
*If you experience a code dump when running YAWM Multimod Batch, delete the wm_config.txt file found inside the /wad directory, and then run YAWM Multimod Batch again and manually select IOS 236 and SD card when prompted.*

Continue on to Priiloader if desired (recommended).

Luckily I had went ahead and installed priloader - (also have NAND backup)
I have verified the system menu hacks [that would cause this] are disabled in priloader,
I cannot access the system menu or maintenance mode. (only priloader)

What was your firmware version before the softmod?
Are you sure it was 4.3?

You can try installing the 4.3 systemmenu.
SystemMenu_4.3E_v514.wad

Fixed my problem...

- Used the Ohneswanzenegger tool to format my nand.bin
- Restored my Wii to stock 4.2U using the NEW nand.bin w/ Bootmii
- Re-bannerbombed and setup everything again.

*sigh*

Glad that's done. Thanks to everyone who attempted to help.
