You wrote something very interesting today:
"4.2 now uses the modded trucha bug restorer. preloader is now made optional"

How can we do that?

BTW, Thank you very much for your guide... it's great!!

the 4.2 guide uses TBR instead of cboot2.
its easier, if youve already modded then nothing really different.

and i made preloader optional

Sent an email, never got a reply.

Anyone else having problems downloading the "newmod.rar" file? Or is it just my retarded comp?

Nevermind. It was my retarded comp. Just got it from wife's Mac.

Great guide! Everything worked like a charm. (3.X - 4.1 Method)
What am I allowed to delete off my SD now that I'm finished?
(I don't want to delete anything that is needed for anything to work properly)

I can't go on because I do not succeed in removing IOS249 form a 4.2.E either through Wad Manager 1.4/1.5 and AnyTitleDeleter.
I always get error -1017 as if I do not have SU rights to delete the files.
Any help?
Thanks in advance

Have you done step 1a ,1b, 1c?
Then you should have the trucha bug back in IOS36, which will allow you to use AnyTitleDeleter to remove the stub IOS249.
Remember to run ATD via IOS36, otherwise it will not work.

first i've updated my wii via Waninkoko's updater from 3.3e to 4.0e than 4.1e. than followed instructions.

it was fine till step
3] Run Dop-IOS MOD
Choose IOS249 and press A.

ios249 is not there. shall i skip this step and keep going. there is ios249 @step4

4] Run Wad Manager [this step can be skipped if already on 4.1]
When it opens choose use IOS249. (it is probably already set to that)

xzxero thanks for your guide -- it helped. My brother updated his wii to 4.2u without talking to me first. He was running 4.1u and USB GX and preloader 0.29v. I have followed your guide to the last detail, but I have ran into a little trouble. First let me explain what I was able to do. I was able to load bootmii as boot2 and IOS. So now when you turn the wii on it boots to bootmii we hit reset and then it boots to preloader (USB GX) and everything works fine -- can play all games -- but if we try to boot to the systemmenu we get a error -- the error says -- wii system titles are corrupted and it will not boot to the systemmenu. I did make a copy of the nand before attemping your guide (with bootmii as boot2) any suggestions?

The problem is this is a guide to Mod a Wii. The optional "Preloader" needs a small but seperate guide. Basically you have to install "IOS70-64-v6687 [Patched][FreeTheBug].WAD" and have the correcxt "hacks" file on your SD card for preloader to work. If you go into Homebrew and install "IOS70-64-v6687 [Patched][FreeTheBug].wad" that should fix the "system files are currupt" Message.

has anyone else had problems with their usbloader gx forwarder after doing the 4.2 update. anything i can do to get it to work. it put a channel on my homescreen but when i click it, it sends me back to the homescreen. any help would be greatly appreciated. have a great day.

Im having a bit of a issue getting it to work. the safe updater that is. When i launch it from the home brew channel i get a black screen and it stays there. When i launch the boot.dol from preloader it acts like its going to work then the screen gets garbled up. its quite amusing as i can hold reset and it changes colors

I do need help with it.

Is the cios 222/223 v4 installer the same one that comes with uloader 3.0?

If so, the default installation is :

cIOS202 -> 38+60
cIOS222 -> 38
cIOS223 -> 38+37

But how come the guide suggests :

cIOS222 -> 38+37
cIOS223 -> 38+60

Just curious...

i know this already.
the reason i didnt include it in the guide is because its optional.
you want it installed, find out how.
i included the patched IOS70 in the wad folder, and the hacks.ini in preloader folder for those to use.
i cant make it easier for these people!

upgrading from 3.2U to 4.1......stuck on step one!

"Run bannerbomb by going to the SD Card menu and choosing yes to load boot.dol
This runs the Hackmii Installer from which you should install the Homebrew Channel, DVDX, and Bootmii as IOS and boot2 if possible."

How do you get to "SD Card menu"? Also the folder has boot.elf not .dol as stated above...does this matter.

Uh oh, xzxero made a mistake there
the old guide (3.x to 4.1) should use the old bannerbomb, cause SD card menu is only for 4.0 and up! (so doesn't work on below 4.0)

you can find the old one here
instead of SD menu, go to data management and then to channels > SD card

4] Run Dop-IOS MOD
Choose IOS249 and press A.
Press right until you see IOS53.
Press A to select then press yes to install and Sig Hash Check.
Press right until you see IOS55.
Press A to select then press yes to install and Sig Hash Check.
Press home to return to HBC.
After I loaded Dop-IOS MOD, I chose IOS249 and it asked me if I wanted to install IOS 36 v3351. I restarted my Wii, reloaded DOP IOS to make sure I did choose IOS 249, and it just went to black screen.

EDIT: Reloaded Dop-IOS MOD a third time, made sure I loaded IOS 249, and it asked me again if I wanted to install IOS36 v3351.

EDIT2: I chose no, and went on to install IOS 53 and 55.

EDIT3: I got to the end, and it WORKED! *yaywii*
