its probably an incompatible hard drive, try a couple other hard drives to see if they work... if one of them works then its got to be a compatibility issue
try using the other usb port
try using the mplayer_ce v0.76 if your not already (and/or u can try using mplayer forwarder fix, just replace the mplayer_ce v0.76 boot.dol with the .dol
HERE, be sure to rename it boot.dol)
u can try a different video format, it could be the video format doesn't work with mplayer_ce (for example, i think mkv's dont work)
