Hacking Modded Wii but not a Wii U. Question.

I've modded a Wii before so I understand the process but haven't done anything to my Wii U. After reading around and seeing people concerned about firmware I have a few questions.

1) I want to be able to keep updating my Wii U, so is the hacking only on the vWii or does it affect the Wii U too? Ideally it would be great if I could keep my Wii U up to date and also have the vWii that never gets touched by OTAs. Are people worried that Nintendo will affect the vWii with updates or the Wii U side of things.

2. To install the HBC do I need a Wii game no matter what to initiate?

3. I've seen something about upscaling Wii and GC games and being able to play them on the GamePad. Does that actually work?

    If your throat closes, putting oxygen in your mouth will not solve anything - as you will be introducing oxygen prior to the area of obstruction
