Hi! First time posting here so sorry if I screw up. I’ve been having an issue with my switch and I posted on the switch homebrew discord and Reddit with no help yet, so I’m hoping someone here has a solution
Here’s my original post: “
Hello! I have an unpatched switch I recently modded a few weeks ago, and I've been having issues with it entering RCM mode while in the dock. I don't have auto RCM enabled, and I've already checked some other common settings that I thought might be causing it (like matching to the TV power state). I saw a suggestion that it may be overheating, but I just replaced the fan and thermal paste, so I doubt that is the cause, I also considered that maybe the power cable wasn't in and the battery was just running out, but whenever I get back into my switch its at full battery, so that also isn't the reason.

It seemingly happens within a few minutes, as I docked it while I started typing this up it just happened.... (I have third-party joycons with LEDs that light up whenever the switch is powered on, and they stop when my switch goes into RCM)

I'm just boggled. At first it didn't bother me outside of the occasional annoyance of having to plug my switch back into my computer, but it happened a two days ago and when I got back in, my console seemingly was softbricked and I had to do a system wipe (and lost all my data :(), so i'd appreciate any ideas or solutions!”

In my initial post I said it was entering RCM mode, however I’ve noticed I don’t think it actually is, as when I plug it into my computer it’s not recognized by tegra and I’m unable to inject a payload. The only way I’m able to get back into CFW is by holding down the power button for 12 seconds to force power it off, power it back on, power it off again, enter rcm mode, and inject the payload.

I boufht both the cable and dock new, but they’re third party (the cable is at least, the dock looks genuine but I ordered it online so I highly doubt it)
Well, there's your problem. The Switch dock is EXTREMELY picky about the AC adapter used, and oftentimes it can fry the Switch if you use an aftermarket AC adapter with an official Switch dock. However, using aftermarket docks is extremely risky, as there have been reports of Switch consoles melting, and sometimes, the Switch actually catches on fire! Best course of action is to buy an official AC adapter before using that Switch at all anymore.

Oof. Got it.

Thank you for that. Apparently this is an easy company for me to forget about.

I guess it is wild, I remember creating a thread about 7 years ago, warning people about 5.0.0 and higher firmware switch bricking with third party dock, I did bought a third party cforce cf002 before the dock problem happened, atleast I found some use out of the third party dock with my samsung tablet where I can charge and Samsung Dex the same time.
