Since when was the amount of ram the decider for what platforms you can develop MMOs for?
Depends on the game. CS online for PC (the online version by nexon)'s graphics aren't that great, well you know, it's CS. But then it takes a LOT of RAM. Explain that. If you can't, you don't even know what you are talking about. It doesn't matter if CS is not an MMO, because it still connects people in the same way as an MMO.
If you think you can fit a game that takes over 4MB of your PC's RAM in the DS, then try so.
and by the way, i have NEVER stated how the amount of RAM it requires decide what platform it will be for.
But there is a RAM limit in everything. If it didn't, then when you buy/download a pc game, why would it say "RAM: *** (*** recommended)" on the back label of the box?
So Devil may cry 3 (not even an MMO) says 256, 512 recommended. So try to play that on the DS with only 4 MB of RAM.
Well, no shit sherlock. Take a look at what thread you're in. We're discussing the possibility of a DS mmorpg.
Well, no shit sherlock. Take a look at the original statement i've commented to. He said if you look around, there are lots of HOMEBREW MMORPG. So then name them if you can.
So you agree with me. Fantastic.
I wasn't agreeing to you, I was posting what I know.
Your argumentation is mind blowing. Do you mind giving an example of a genre where the average game has longer development process than the average MMORPG? I don't think I've ever seen a MMO which took less than 2 years to develop from start to closed beta. Usually its 3+ years. Not to mention many MMOs stay in open beta stage for years too. No other genre is this time consuming to develop for period.
If a game was released in beta, it's still actually released. So CS online is still being developed, new maps are being added, and more weapons etc are being added, too. Just like an MMO i've played from beta (dungeon and fighter), each update was usually graphics, skills, more dungeons, new enemies, and more.
So I'll say then CS online is still being developed and is not completely out. It will still be updated the next year, which will make it 2 years of development. And updates won't stop that soon. Probably more updates until the game is finally shut down.
Look, I've played 3 games from open beta, (dual gate, dungeon and fighter, mabinogi, will play mabinogi heroes as soon as it comes out, and also played FPS games from open beta: CSO, and combat arms.)
Prove me that an FPS game didn't take that long to develop.
The development news of combat arms came out over an year ago, and it is finally released as a beta with 1 map and 1 scenario.
So prove me wrong.
