ARRGGHHHH !!!!!!

OK ... now that's out of my system, what have I got so worked up about ????

It's Minecraft updates & Mods

There I am,been playing minecraft v1.5_01 for a while & this week there's an update - to 1.6.4 - so I think it's about time to update... so I do
And what did I forget to do - Backup the older version...... & now I've 'lost' all the Mods I had installed
bash.gif

So I wait a couple of days to see if the mods I had installed get updated & SOME have... Yippee - So I then go re-about adding those.
Of course that's not as easy to do

- before I was using TFCMM to download & install the MODS - but even THAT seems 'broken' now & not up-to-date,
so I have to re-do it the 'older way' of click/drag files into 'minecraft.jar', which I THEN find out my compression program 'corrupts' the *.jar file somehow (BTW - I used IZArc) & causes no end of trouble when trying to 'launch' (Always happened when I added the ModLoader files for some reason - but not any of the other Mods, Weird
wtf.gif
)

Once I get those installed - out comes another update (v1.6.5) & YET AGAIN I forgot to backup up, thinking that since it's so soon after the last one, there's not much that've changed

.... WRONG !!!

& now I had to wait yet again for updates... which by now some have been (but STILL missing a couple though)

So onto my frustration - Why oh WHY can't we have a 'Rollback' feature when updating Minecraft !!!!
Surely it can't be that difficult to include - just ZIP all the files into a single pack THEN update......

And while on the subject of Minecraft Mods.... I was wondering what the other GBAtemp/Minecrafter have .....

Here's my list:
  • ModLoader (naturally)
AudioMod (I'll need this 'later' for when another mod is updated - hopefully)
FinderCompass (I like this Mod since you STILL need to figure out where to mine & it only register ON THE SAME LEVEL as you are)
Recipe Book (Saves having to check looking up on the Wiki how to craft some stuff)
TooManyItems (I DON'T use this for the actual mining [much] - but am thinking of doing some 8-bit modeling &/or roller coasters at some point)
Mo'Animals (not updated yet - shame)
    Baby Animals (not updated yet)
    mcpatcher (for hi-res graphics hack)
    Misa210 Texture pack

'Tis why I'm still on 1.5. Trust me, I know exactly how you feel.Well it wouldn't be so bad if you could download older version from the website - but Nooo... they won't even allow that

QUOTE(Sausage Head @ May 29 2011, 04:01 PM) you could make a batch file that automatically backups %appdata%\.minecraft\bin and then starts up minecraft
True, that's a possibly idea IF you mean you run that BAT file each time instead of the Minecraft launcher
- But I see a problem that you may run that / update / then run it again the following day to install a newly pdated MOD - Opps you've overwrtitten the older version.....

If i'm correct there was an downgrading tool for minecraft.
Want me to get a link for you?
If you're talking about MCD0.9 (or Minecraft Downgrader) - already tried it but getting errors

When trying to use it - I click {download}, which it tells me 'Please wait while the patch is downloaded' followed by 'The patch has been downloaded'
& then clicking {patch} I get error message where it 'System.IO.DirectoryNotFoundException: Could not find a part of the path 'C:/Documents and Settings/Kevin/Application Data/.minecraft/bin/minecraft.jar'

(and even if I manually download the files (Patches-b1.6.5.zip) & try 'patching' - same thing)

I know for a fact TooManyItems and the HD patcher were updated, but not sure about modloader. I don't use any of the other mods listed, so yeah.

I tend not to use mods at all, aside from the occasional aesthetic mods (Wild Grass, which is kind of pointless now, Wild Caves, etc.), as I feel vanilla Minecraft has more charm, and with mods, there's the risk of gameplay being unbalanced (For example, SDK's gun mod, mo creatures, even though pretty much all of the creatures are useless, etc.).

Well I find minecraft a little 'empty' so that why I like mo'animals & baby animals, and you can also 'breed' some of them. I've so found out about wolves extended so might install that one

I've already mentioned about the compass although I did'nt say that I'd REDUCED the scan range to make it harder to find stuff. As for toomanyitems it's soo tempting to use it I just wish I could just make it 'MAP specific' - as in its only used on a certain map

Same as TDWP, I usually play the the vanilla game, aside from the occasional high-res texture pack.

I prefer to use vanilla but some of these look tempting, the transmitter mod may be a bit too futuristic but I really like the idea of building discworld-esque semaphore towers.

People still play singleplayer MC?
Damn.
I got bored of that after day 1. SMP is where it's at.
1) SMP is still very buggy
2) In single player, you can do whatever you want, build where you want, and have all the resources to yourself
3) You can use mods of course

Ahem!
4) NO Griefers!!

I did the same as OP, and had to wait for my mods to get updated: I usually use:
Mo' Creatures (Got bored of it really quickly though)
Mod Loader
Too Many Items (Using to get cobblestone for my castle, used a couple thousand, no other uses though)
Zombe Mod pack - Fly Mod
Single Player Commands - SPC is one of the best mods out there IMO although it includes fly, I prefer Zombe Mod Pack's fly.

SPC includes commands like: /light - instantly lights the whole world up even if it's night.
/instantmine - Basicly destroy anything with 1 hit (Makes destroying Obsidian so much easier)
/Reach # - Reach allows you to change your reach so you can destroy blocks that are further away

Those are just 3 of my favorite commands. Although I'm not dependent on them, they make Minecraft life so much easier.

I rarely play Multiplayer because my cpu can't handle it atm and I don't have enough RAM, although soon that shall change =)

Hmm - I like the 'Telescope' & 'Rope' ideas + the 'SpiderQueen' one looks interesting as well... did I see a 'Creeper Spider' in the video ?!?!

As for - 'unbalanced' mods... I agree that many Mods do make the game easier (like the X-ray one that I found recently) etc.... but some actually add to the game play IMHO - for example theres one that allows you to 'trade' with some NPC's.... There also those that creates new MOBs to fight against, & as said there's also the hi-res packs to make the landscape more 'realistic'

Once we get more 'Achievement' set up that'll extend the game play as well
