I've been playing the LCE on my PC. There's a Windows build with mouse and keyboard support, multiplayer, and a bunch of fixes on github if anyone wants to try it out. There's also a separate group on there porting it to Linux, MacOS, Android, iOS, and the web. Seeing how people are doing this on github and Microsoft hasn't DMCA'd them yet I guess they don't care about these old builds. I actually prefer the old LCE UI to the current UI.

Yeah I have it on PC too, but having it on my 3DS as a portable option is what's truly exciting.

Is it possibly something simple like VRAM/RAM size, or the old 3ds not having higher clock speeds?
It is. I just cannot find the bottleneck. Though it is probably many things. I do not own an O3DS so the way I test it is disabling the L2 cache and higher clock speed on the Luma New 3DS menu. It halves performance in nearly every scene regardless of render distance or mob spawns.

Forgive my naivety, I know very little about Minecraft. What makes the legacy console edition better than the official N3DS release?

Official 3DS release is based on Pocket Edition; cut down, botched and pretty slow at that.

LCE is more feature-complete, and having access to the code base lets the community make a better port.

I guess I was looking for specifics. What features make it more feature complete? I dont doubt it's better, but I want to know exactly what features it has that the official release doesn't.

From the top of my head, 3DS version only has LAN multiplayer, very few settings, no resource packs, has a particularly small world size, is missing a massive amount of blocks, items, mobs, mechanics, etc. Stability is also much worse, as playing in worlds becomes laggier the more you play.

I believe a lot of it can be attributed to the outdated (even at the time) Pocket Edition version the 3DS version was based on, but considering it had no 3D support, it was nothing special, just a pretty horrible and barren port.

Some of those shortcomings were solved using mods, but that's pretty much turning shit into turd... just a fun curiousity at best.

@GravityGRVT, can we have a gameplay video?
Have some patience. The developer is under no obligation to post anything or bring in new testers until it's ready. Consider that asking about it over and over could slow things down, if anything...
