mig switch compatibility speculation

Essentially as far as I understand, the cartridge protection for the Switch Cartridges (Lotus 3) has been fully de-capped and reverse engineered along with the private keys.

This means mig switch/unlockswitch (if it ever gets released!!!) - should still work on Switch 2, but may require some kind up updated firmware or something

I bet nintendo is going to add a switch 2 mode to cartridges so old flashcarts don't work.
Probably the same way as exclusive New 3DS games, where the Switch 2 gamecards would not work on an original Switch. The hardware of the gamecards will not change.

I really hope there's no "Switch Mode" B.S.... I just want to pop in a Switch 1 cart and launch it natively.
I didn't mean like that. 3DS catridges used a different protocol to load. When first popped in they'd use the ds's communication method, but the cartridge would ask to use 3ds communication, before switching to that.

I'm willing to bet that Switch 2 carts have a tab on them like 3DS carts did.

Looks the same size to me.

The tab could also be at the bottom of the cart, preventing it from being insertable in a regular Switch. Either that, or the regular Switch will just bitch that the cart is not compatible, that's always an option too... But if they go that route, then we'll probably be able to use a hacked Switch to dump Switch 2 game ROMs.

Considering that Nintendo delayed the Switch 2 reveal just when the Mig Switch released and how the Mig/Unlock/OpenMig devs are working on a FW update to allow flashcarts to load modified XCI, it seems likely that Nintendo took some measures to prevent usage in the Switch 2. We'll see how those measures hold up, because plastic tabs/slight case changes will be easily bypassed.

Will probably be like the Gamecude mode on the Wii.
Switch 2 detects an original Switch game and plays it in a sandbox

I don't think this will be the case this time around. But I do think the MIG will launch Switch games, but may need a new hardware revision for Switch 2 games. Unless Nintendo did some extra homework in order to be able to detect between a cartridge and the MIG. (But I doubt it, the MIG came out far too late into Switch 2's development)

with it being backwards compatible in theory switch 1 games on mig should work. what about switch 2 games on mig?
No way. There is no way Nintendo didn't take measures to make it even more difficult to make a Switch 2 flashcart, they would be shooting themselves in the foot. At the very least cartridge communication will use different encryption keys (and perhaps better encryption), making it impossible to create a flashcart without a kernel exploit to dump the keys at least.
I expect the MIG Switch to still work though. If not right away, then it can be updated to work. Even if there is some way in which it works differently from a legit cart which Nintendo could use to detect and block it, it would just be a game of cat & mouse with MIG providing updates to fix every flaw that allows detection. After all, in theory it should work the exact same as a real cart, the header data and ROM is the same, and there isn't any unsigned code execution happening. If done properly, it should be indistinguishable. It is unlikely that Nintendo will be able to block it in the long term.
