I read it somewhere else and someone give me a challenge question:

3x + 9 = 861, what is the value of x?

Anybody know ? Out of curiosity because i do not know the answer to that.

Pretty obvious, x = 284

Yes, it's 284, because 3x=852 so x=284

Otherwise yeah it seems to be a standard rearrange to find x equation.

3x = 852

:3

x = 284

So to work out 'x' (or whatever the unknown value is) you can just pull the numbers to the otherside to it ends up looking like

x = 123

So if we have 3x + 9 = 861, we can first MINUS 9, because to take 9 off one side, we must do it to the other, so take 9 away from 861
Now 3x = 852
So to get ride of x, we divide both sides by 3, so 3x / 3 = x and 852 / 3 = 284
so now were just left with x = 284, thus its the answer
