Isn't it supposed to run on a different processor other than the PPC one? That's why a PPC kernel exploit won't do anything regarding the IOSU, right?

Yes, Cafe OS runs on the PowerPC and IOSU runs on the ARM. The Cafe OS kernel implements PowerPC services needed by all applications (like memory management and register context management), and provides some security by preventing a userspace app from getting full access to the the PowerPC. However, the PowerPC doesn't get access to most devices, like the NAND, eMMC, disc drive, network card, and USB controller, so it needs to get access to those devices through IOSU. IOSU's memory is protected from PowerPC access, meaning, as you said, that a PPC kernel exploit won't help you exploit IOSU.

Will you be able to fake the system version/make a custom firmware without a IOSU exploit to play online on 4.0.0 to 5.1.0 systems?

I'm not completely sure, since I don't know how Nintendo Network support is implemented. However, I do believe that it's implemented on the PowerPC, so it should be possible to fake the version.

I believe that, on the Wii, you could play online with any version, and if you wanted to access the Wii Shop Channel you only had to update the channel separately, using a WAD for example.

So I read through all of this stuff.
1.) I hope Marionumber1 and co make good progress
2.) While IOSU might be fun to play with (SNEEK type stuff?), there is no real need for it
3.) If IOSU gets cracked, we would only need to figure out the encryption. Then we could have HBCU
4.) I believe that piracy will come, and it is responsibility to stop it as long as possible. (Only report those bug to big N?)
5.) You could prevent WI-FI when you have cheats enabled, no?
6.) Could we create custom USB drivers for the WiiU without IOSU?
7.) Is there any way that I could help? (My WiiU updated itself. :-( (If someone has a Wii U to send, without me paying, I am all for it))

That is it for now...

That's a pretty good idea that we may look into when we have a kernel exploit.

6.) Could we create custom USB drivers for the WiiU without IOSU?

No, since the USB controller is inaccessible from the PowerPC. This is due to AHBPROT, just like on the old Wii.

A new WebKit exploit would benefit the entire community and allow you to work on hacking on your own console. I don't know about your skill with that, though.

5.) Thank you!
6.) That is a shame.
7.) I know a ton of the theory, but I have almost no "real world" experience.

No, I ment with the hacking and re, I code every day in a handful of language.

When I came into Wii U hacking and created (well, played a major part in creating), I did have programming and PowerPC reverse engineering experience, but as for stuff like ROP, I only knew them in theory. Sound familiar? I got more experience with hacking and exploit development by making one.

That is why I just started poking at a XP machine. :-P

Here's the bottom line. The team working here will not allow you to pirate games, if you don't like that, then start working on the exploit yourself. An iosu exploit would serve zero purpose other than allowing piracy(correct me if I'm wrong). You can disagree with the developers all you want, but they are not going to allow piracy just because you want to feel like you have total control of your console.

I'm buying a WiiKeyU so i dont need the exploit :D

United States Constitution actually said:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Plus he meant "right" in the moral sense, not literal rights guaranteed to you by a certain party.

People come to me who don't have any experience and ask how they can help. I always say "learn how to RE on an open system before even thinking about jumping into development on a closed one". That is excellent gudenaurock! I am so happy that you are actually interested in learning about security; something I am greatly passionate about. After you learn the ropes on PC I would recommend getting an Xbox 360 or PS3 to hack. They both have excellent communities, great documentation and are PowerPC based. :)
