CannonFoddr (or someone else who knows the answer):

Is there a way to install AKAIO 1.6RC2 + Moonshell 2.10, without the files necessary to load ROMs, and still autoboot? Because I don't need to run games, only music, and it's more acessible to me autoboot Moonshell in this SD (I use 8GB for games and 2GB for music, different SDs).
Why?

Why do something that is more difficult (using a custom setup rather than a pre-packaged setup) and LACKING in a feature?
If you don't want to boot ROMs, then don't...

First because it's more useful to me, second because I want more free space in my SD, third because I like MS2.10 (and the spectrum analyzer in this version is somewhat different of stable's).

(sorry for the bad spelling)

[04-04-10]: New Another 'MAIO' package added (v3.00) - 'Moonshell 2.1Stable with AKAIO 1.6RC2 support'AKAIO 1.6RC2 + Moonshell 2.10 will use the same amount of space as MAIO v3.00 (AKAIO 1.6RC2 + Moonshell 2.10)
AKAIO 1.6RC2 + Moonshell 2.10 will use the same Moonshell version as MAIO v3.00 (AKAIO 1.6RC2 + Moonshell 2.10)

MAIO v3.00 does what you want except that it CAN load ROM's... but if you don't want to load ROMs, then don't load them.

Anyway... the instructions on getting Moonshell 2.xx to autoboot on AKAIO is listed in the first page:
QUOTE(CannonFoddr @ Mar 19 2010, 03:00 PM)
For allowing Moonshell2 to be run straight away
- I used Xenon++ 'moonshl2alt.nds' loader, DLDI patched it with Acekard 2 libraries and renamed it to 'akmenu4.nds' & replaced the existing AKAIO version of 'akmenu4.nds' in the root of the card
I believe this will work for 2.10 Stable if you have teh moonshl2alt.nds for 2.10 Stable.

That's strange, because in the title screens shows a "Moonshell 2.09 version". I guess this is 2.10beta9 feature.

And this link is broken, this is why I could not test either ways before. =/

The reason for the title being 'Moonshell 2.09 autobooting on Ak2i' was that I was only intentionally going to release a single package with just that in it - but somehow, what with the 'improvements' on the fixes/patches - it's grown to something else

I have been meaning to ask the moderator to change the title (if possible) to just 'MAIO - Moonshell autobooting on ak2i' but never got round to it

As for the 'mshl2tools' link - there's a new package & it's been mirrored here

No, no, you got wrong, it's not the thread title, I am speaking of Moonshell title screen. xD

So, I DLDI that moonshl2alt.nds with the AK libraries, rename it to akmenu4.nds and it will autoboot Moonshell 2.10 into AKAIO 1.6RC2?

As long as it's Moonshell 2.10's moonshl2alt.nds that you DLDI patch... Many/most of Moonshell's files are 'keyed' to a date.

Also, the Moonshell 2.09 thing -might- be part of the skin, or a 'side effect' of switching/editing some files.
I think I read something about that a few pages back.

I could be a little rude and say 'Read the F**king Buglist' as it's a known problem, as I'm guessing you are actually talking about the animation that is shown while moonshell boots up (light blue screen with the word Moonshell 'appearing' left-to-right @ the top)

The problem is that the current 'fixes' (when I made MAIOv3.00 that is - don't know about the latest 'r30' ones) will not allow 'Moonshell 2.1 Stable' to autoboot on startup - it locks up on the normal black[top]/white[bottom] moonshell boot status screens

To get around this - I had to 'fool' the autoboot loader (moonsh2alt.nds) into thinking it's booting an older version (in this case 2.1b9), however the animation that comes with that version shows '2.09' on screen anyway (it should've been 2.1beta9)

There is also a bug with 2.1b9 that won't allow any other 'splash.ani' to be used so I am unable to change to one that show the correct version numbers - so that's why you see '2.09' instead of '2.1Stable'
(Actually if you noticed @ the bottom of this screen you should see '2.1 Stable (Xenon++ fix)' shown)

[you can see what I had to do on an earlier post in this thread if you're interested]

MAIO v3.00 is in fact v2.1Stable at it's root - it's just that the boot screens shows the wrong version number just to get it to autoboot - Hope that clears that part up for you

So you fooled the autoboot loader to think it's an older version, because the 2.10 Stable don't autoboot with this method at all? OK, I understood.

But I still have this question: spectrum analyzer is different in this version of Moonshell. Even heavy metal songs couldn't reach the full height of the bars, now all the bars reach the limit (if I remember well, this 'bug' was present in older MS2 versions). The files you modified to get the autoboot works can now change any feature in Moonshell 2.10 Stable?

Are you talking about the 'child' update fixes?

I'm not sure if it will work with MAIO, nor can I test since I don't have my AK2i yet, but I think Cannon would know.

Didn't even know about this 'child' update - but using those links above & downloading them, I don't think you would be able to use them if you still want Commercial ROM support

The 'overlay.dll' and 'reload.dat' files are the same files that Xenon++ had modified to allow v2.1b9 to run commercial ROMs.
By replacing Xenon++ versions with the 'child' ones will prevent the ROM running (You will also need to replace the one's I swapped with 2.1b9 back to 2.1 as well) but you will get Moonshell to autoboot up - you just lose the Commercial ROM running (& maybe also Homebrew - I haven't checked that bit out)

Moonshell has it's own Homebrew launching, and I think that the _hn.HugeNDSLoader.nds and _vh.VeryHugeNDSLoader.nds files are for larger Homebrew files (I think >1MB triggers _hn.HugeNDSLoader.nds and I'm not sure about _vh.VeryHugeNDSLoader.nds).

Glad to here that Moonshell doesn't use any EXTLINK for homebrew, so that part should be ok then (for small homebrew) but as for the info about Moonshells '_vn' and _hn' loaders for larger homebrew - well I've removed them in MAIO, according the Xenon++ 'maio_diff' instructions
QUOTE said:
How to use:
0. Install MAIO
1. Delete _hn.*.nds and _vh.*.nds
2. Put moonshl2 folder (please overwrite)
3. Install latest AKAIO
4. Put akaio.*
and so are replaced with '_vn.inilink.nds' and '_hn.inilink.nds', which I believe means that AKAIO takes over the [larger] Homebrew launching responsibilities

lol im stick to moonshell 2.05 as that is the most stable moonshell that i used: i did some test on different moonhell revision (2.05-2.10):

view pictures:

(jpeg progressive):

2.05 = OK
2.06 = Hang
2.07 = Hang
2.08 = Hang
2.09 = Kinda (some loads some not)
2.10 = same as 2.09

non progressive jpeg formats:

2.05 = OK
2.06 = OK
2.07 = OK
2.08 = OK
2.09 = OK
2.10 = OK

png and bmp formats:

2.05 = OK
2.06 = OK
2.07 = OK
2.08 = OK
2.09 = OK
2.10 = OK

mp3 loading:

2.05 = OK
2.06 = OK (glitch sound when you navigate file explorer)
2.07 = OK (hiccups)
2.08 = OK (hiccups)
2.09 = OK
2.10 = OK

Video loading:

2.05 = OK
2.06 = OK (hiccups when "fast playback" enabled frameskipping)
2.07 = OK (hiccups when "fast playback" enabled frameskipping)
2.08 = OK (hiccups when "fast playback" enabled frameskipping)
2.09 = OK
2.10 = OK

all out performace with slot2 ram pack:

2.05 = file navigation is same as normal, same as opening files such as pictures, video or music. Without slot2 youre going to see the memory full BSOD frequently

2.06 = without slot2.. opening pictures will take forever to finish to load (high resolution pictures), if you have ram pack, the picture will load in seconds.

2.07 = same as 2.06, encounter of BSOD memory full has been lessen if you dont have slot2

2.08 = same as 2.07

2.09 = more slower without slot2, specially when loading pictures and navigating on file explorer

2.10 = performance is same as 2.05 (you can load files fast without slot2 and encounter of BSOD memory full has been lessen) but the issue found from 2.06 - 2.09 arent fixed yet"

all version: the performance with slot2 is really great while reading manga and listening to music at the same time..

other common issue found beginning 2.06 - 2.10 are:

= homebrew hangs when you tap the next button while viewing pictures
= from 2.07 onwards some homebrews cannot load resulting to view an error "Unknown format"

final results are... 2.10 is the best with little issue(if you dont have slot2), but if you have slot2 ram pack, i suggest you to stick with 2.05 (if the rampack is supported on that version)

So I can replace the files without problem? After all, just as I said before, I won't load ROMs in this SD.

Hmm so you prefer 2.05 stable then ?? - would you like a 'MAIO with MS 2.05 package' (not sure what version number to call that one since 2.09 is 'MAIO v1.00' - 'MAIO SE' perhaps??), or are you happy with doing it yourself (or perhaps youalready done it yourself) ??

Anyway - I 'need' MS2.1 (beta or otherwise) as I really want the DSi screen capture feature, but I also would like to get 'stable' to work as then I can add my own splash.ani

to ~stenny: yes install MAIO, delete /moonshel2/ folder & install whatever version you like (just don't delete any files on the root) & you should then get Moonshell to autoboot as normal - & if you use 2.1stable & wanted the 'child' files insead of the 'normal' ones - just copy those over.
Oh & you MAY need to place akiao.aio (or the original 'akmenu4.nds' from AKAIO) into the resetmse folder & rename it to 'rpgs.nds' if you want the 'reset to firmware' to work

We've had 2 people talking about variations
  • ~Stenny wants an autobooting Moonshell without ROM support
  • dnniwa485 has mentioned he prefer's 'Moonshell v2.05 stable'
OK - so it's got me thinking (won't actually do it - just testing the water's so-to-speak)

- What variations of MAIO (still with the emulator plugins etc), would people be interested in ?
  • Different Moonshell at it's core: '2.05 Stable' instead of '2.09'/'2.1beta'/'2.1 Stable' perhaps
    Please remember that to get 2.1Stable to autoboot some 'frigging' has to be done which makes the splash animation show the wrong version
    And that any version pass v2.09 will NOT be able to have a customised 'splash.ani' (boot-up animation)
  • With ROM Running/Without Rom Running: But still having access to AKAIO through 'reset to firmware' or running 'akaio.nds'
  • Different Moonshell 'plugins': What would you like taken away/added (if possible) to make it more 'all-in-one'?

    So I've added a poll to find out
OH - & if any Moderators read this ... Is there any chance getting the Post title(s) changed from
'Moonshell 2.09 autobooting on ak2i' to 'Moonshell autobooting on ak2i'
and
'+ AKAIO 1.5.1 & Commercial ROM running' changed to '+ AKAIO/Commercial ROM running'
as the version numbers are not applicable any more - thanks

You still need feedback about running MAIO on AK2.1? Runs perfectly, without a doubt.

The title should says "Moonshell autobooting on Acekard" and "+ AKAIO / Commercial ROM running".

Plus, I don't plan to use, but the suggestion is here as well: the extlink of more emulators (like Atari - StellaDS).
