My post on the M3 Sakura website has been up for several days now, but not very many people seem to have seen it.

Go HERE for more info.

I have the Japanese M3 Real, so I'm trying out the firmware right now. Will get back with first impressions as soon as I've experimented enough with it.

Tell us more!!

How is it that the firmwares are in japanese and the even the name is Japanese?

Densetsu3000: does it actually launch for you? For me it just:

Shell_FAT_fopen_Data=/SYSTEM/M3SAKURA/LOGBUF.TXT

Application halted!!!
Please refer [/SYSTEM/m3sakura/logbuf.txt]
At which point my SD card has lost it's FAT (can't see any files, but can recover ~38MiB from lost chains.)

edit:/got it going on my DS (instead of dslite), now it seems to work on both without killing the card.

In case anyone is wondering, here's what I get:
QUOTEReboot ROM '/NDS/GAMENA~1.NDS'
Clear memory top= 0x02134320. 2927840byte.
ConvertFull_Unicode2Alias: Not find Unicode file item. [startnds.ext]
Fatal error: This file is not HomeBrew.

OK, I just fired it up and did a quick run-through of it.

I'll just come out with it from the get-go: I can't get it to run GBA and NDS ROMs

Whenever I try to play a ROM, I get the same screen that shows up in the beta release, with the little message that says "Aplication halted!!" near the bottom of the top screen.

First I deleted the M3 Real SYSTEM folder on my MicroSD card and left everything else intact, then dragged the M3Sakura SYSTEM folder onto the card. The ROMs wouldn't run, so I tried moving a ROM out of the NDS/GBA folders into the root of the card; no dice.

The next thing I did was recopy my original M3 Real SYSTEM folder onto the card, then drag the M3Sakura SYSTEM folder onto the card as well. This overwrote some of the files in the M3 Real SYSTEM folder. Still didn't work. I couldn't get the ROMs to run in the NDS/GBA folders or in the root of the MicroSD card.

Anyone have other suggestions?

Everything else works perfectly. I can run all of my homebrew, view pictures, play music and DPG video files, and even run NES, SNES, Sega/Genesis ROMs through the emulators. There are just tiny differences in the startup screen, but other than that it's almost identical to the beta version. The GUI is just as slick and smooth, the tapping and sliding response to the stylus is great.

The one big difference I noticed from the beta release is the addition of auto-boot function.

There are two sample autoboot files in the root, called "defaultx.nds" and "defaulty.nds."

The way it works is, you rename an NDS file (whether homebrew or ROM) to "defaultn.nds," where "n" is either of the X or Y buttons. You can auto-boot any .nds file by holding them down while powering up your DS.

So if you wanted to auto-boot SnemulDS, you would place SnemulDS.nds in the root directory, rename it "defaultx.nds," and hold down the X button when you turn on the DS. If you rename it to "defaulty.nds," then you'd hold down the Y button upon power-up. It works perfectly, I just tried it. It doesn't seem to work with the A button though. Haven't tried the B button yet, but I will soon.

*EDIT*
Auto-boot doesn't work for the B button either. Whenever I try, I get double white screens and have to shut down. Holding down the A button when powering on seems to only freeze the boot-up of M3 Sakura, but releasing it allows boot-up to resume normally. So Auto-boot only works for the X and Y buttons.
*END EDIT*

I'm looking at the readme text files that were included in the Sakura firmware download, but none of them provide documentation about how to set it up. Right now I'm checking out different Japanese forums to see what our ninja friends have to say.

This is frustrating

Bad news then..Thanks for an update though..
It could be some catch to NDS/GBA running..

Ask ninjas, they should know everything!!And post up here any new you come up to..
And on question? Is it fast and smooth as beta, or it slowed down a bit in this final version?

I can wait, no problem about that.....I'm just curious.....I really doubt that they would hold and develop it for so long, and after release that everything wouldn't be running..

I just came to an idea..Maybe they did it with intention, if there is going to be an event scheduled for 31.05, with Sakura "party" and 100 Sakura carts giveaway (with 2 GB pre-set microSd cards)..Maybe they disabled that function of running dumped ROMs, because it is illegal, and they will enable it with the ne firmware release..
(it probably isn't the case, but it could be

).......I don't know..

hm, anyone tried the "setup" menu for roms yet?
wouldn't be surprised if you need to set something there for commercial roms(rom setup menu is accessed by sliding the rom to the left)

and urza, the english beta is useless.
the only uses it has is launch 20% of the homebrews, and play music/video for 5 minutes(after which the programming forces a freeze)
EDIT: and did anyone try V111 yet?
they already posted the first update.

The Ver111 gives you a "Application halted!!" message at the startup (on topscreen) but also says that you should "install the firmware corresponding to each" (+"Firmware language ID and hardware ID are different.")(on touchscreen) But in the rar pack there is a "LanguageSelect.exe" and when you copy the files to a micro card and put the LanguageSelect.exe into the root with the system folder, (the exe won't start when the files are on your computer and an error will pop up) you can start it. but currently you can only choose japanese.

EDIT:

that was with 110 too.
i was more wondering about commercial rom support.
but seeing as you have a EU or US m3real you won't get it to work.

the language selector works from anywhere as long as you have the system files on the root of a disk/microSD

So, wait, is the Sakura firmware going to be released for use on the M3 Real? Or is this just for these special cards?

So everyone stop whining and just use the previous english beta.
Sounds like the best idea here, especially if they only thing added was some autoboot thing I'll never use.

This firmware would work on the G6 Real, right? I haven't used mine in a loooong time.

No it's not best idea..Beta is known for higher possibility of microSD card corruption, and freezes after 5 minutes of music/video play..

Autoboot thing is great, and I like that option a lot, but it's my personal opinion..
And for now, G6 Real can't run it, because Sakura needs microSD with FAT sorting..(But in the future, there's a possibility of G6 support)..
