  1. Remove and reinsert your battery to reset RAM memory.
  2. Take out the SD card, turn on the 3DS, and hold the (Select) button.
    • You should see Luma3DS v9.1 configuration if you're using the latest custom firmware.
    • The settings should be like this. Make sure the ( ) Disable ARM11 exception handlers is NOT marked.

3. Press (START) and check if you can boot into HOME Menu.
4. If it boots, turn off the 3DS and try it again with the SD card.

I think latest firmware is not very stable sometimes crashes for no reason.

I. Reformat your SD card and check if it's fake.

II.
Make sure your custom firmware is using the latest: Luma3DS v9.1, GodMode9 v1.7.1, and boot9strap v1.3 on both the SD card and CTRNAND.
  • If you have Luma3DS (v7.0.5 or older) using arm9loaderhax:
-or-

III.
Access the Luma3DS v9.1 configuration by holding (Select) when turning on the 3DS.
  • Until you know what each one does from experience, these should be the settings on both the SD card and CTRNAND.
  • Unless your NTR plugins requires this option, never use or mark the ( ) Disabled ARM11 exception handlers.

IV.
Do some additional Troubleshooting.
  • Black screen on SysNAND boot
  • Clear Home Menu extdata
  • Black screen on SysNAND boot after Installing boot9strap

*** Regarding Themes and Anenome3DS ***

VI. Delete the HOME Menu Theme extdata folder found at:
  • Nintendo 3DS/<ID0>/<ID1>/extdata/00000000/000002cx
  • Depending which region your 3DS is, 000002cx will be:
    • JPN = 000002cc
    • USA = 000002cd
    • EUR = 000002ce
    • CHN / TWN / KOR do not have themes
  • Extdata information from:

VII.
Delete the Anemone3DS folder found in the 3ds folder. Reinstall this homebrew app with the latest release found here:

VIII.
Install a 5 basic color theme shuffle using the official 3DS theme manager.
  • This will recreate a new 000002cx extdata folder.

IV. Check again with Anemone3DS.

i think i found an answer to prevent this crash. Go to sd card. open Nintendo 3ds folder go to folder with numbers example 90e1a6e4f9a2735c461ac40205edc63f then other folder with numbers example b938010b472526bf534136340002544d then go to extdata 00000000 folder and choose region
  • EUR Region: Delete 00000098
  • JPN Region: Delete 00000082
  • USA Region: Delete 0000008f
  • CHN Region: Delete 000000A1
  • KOR Region: Delete 000000A9
  • TWN Region: Delete 000000B1
in my case i chose european region i removed this folder completely 00000098. Now it should be good well some people confirmed it works.

I had the same issue and user Giodude (on another post) suggested placing boot.3dsx in the root folder of the SD Card. Hope that helps. It may also be another missing file.
