You will also need the original Super Mario Sunshine ISO (which we can't direct you to here as that would be piracy - legally you should be dumping your own disc) - the page where you found the patch should tell you which version you need (USA vs Japan or Europe, possibly a specific version number) to look for.

Then apply the patch to the ISO (file format for copies of discs - comparable to ROMs for cartridge-based system) with a program like Delta Patcher https://n64squid.com/homebrew/how-to-patch-rom-hacks/.

Has a text file called 'log' or similar appeared next to the patcher? It might tell you what the problem is.

Check that you're using the right region / version of SMS, download the ISO and/or patch from a different site, or try a different patching program.
