Hey all,
Had an earlier thread in here about it, but I can't seem to find it anymore... and it's probably long past calling it "necro'ing that thread."
In short, got to pick up a PSP-2000 off someone's hands that was about to throw it out, since in their terms it was busted. In reality, what was wrong was that the factory (yes, the original) Sony battery was ready to burst, and the screen was somehow cracked in several ways. And all the more surprised that what I see as the screen is actually just a layer atop the actual screen.
Well, finally at least some progress. I was able to finally get in a replacement screen for it that works like a charm. Looks to be on firmware 5.03... but I wouldn't know how to tell what kinda motherboard there is, if that is even relevant anymore.
So, here are the facts that I currently do know:
I have a line for being able to possibly get one of those extended ones locally for like $10... the upside there would be that if it doesn't work as advertised, I at least have an easy way to return/exchange it. No, I would not want an external battery for the same reason I'm currently not fond of how I have to operate it now. All it would take is one tug of a cable and the thing dies immediately, since there is no battery in the system. Supposing that that doesn't work out, what would be a good alternative for a battery? Obviously the more hours I can get per charge, the better... but price IS an object. And when I finish fixing this, I obviously don't want to have to drag around an external battery to use it properly.
Second, it seems silly but I am still debating whether to try to get an adapter or if it's even worth getting a genuine MSPD at this point, especially considering the ever-loving "$ony tax" and the ridiculous price hikes Sony-specific storage always seems to go for. i know that between the games and homebrew, I can easily fill up at least one 32gig card, as that's what I almost do with the internal + 16gig M2 card in my PSP Go.
Third, are there anything specific I should look out for regarding the modding potential on this system? Like motherboard revisions? I know that was a pretty big deal with the 3000 series, but don't remember if that was an issue with the 2000's, or if there's anything specific revisions of the 2k series would prevent doing.

- No obvious mods or telltale signs of CFW, yet
