Well I'm lookng for a video converter that converts most video files to MP4 format (for PSP) . Also to be precise one
that can convert file to small size.
I'm currently using Ultra mp4 converter and it is really starting to annoy me so any other suggestion would be
very much appreciated.

My recommendation :
1. PSP Video 9
2. PSP Video Converter (PSPVC)

If you want small size, just reduce the quality.

I use Xilisoft HD Video Converter ultimate 6 or something. (Pirated

Personally I use a combination of DVD43 and Handbrake. This setup allows ripping videos directly from DVD to MP4 format, instead of ripping the DVDs in the huge VOB format and THEN converting as I used to do.

The only problem with this method is for some reason Handbrake won't let you set the screen size correctly, but changing the playback mode to full screen on the PSP makes the videos work fine.

If you just want to convert videos, and not rip from DVDs, I'd advise PSP Video 9, but an old version of it if you can find it. Newer versions were crap. Version 1.74 is good if you can find it.

EDIT: Here's a link for 1.74: http://dl.qj.net/psp/homebrew-applications...ideo-9-174.html

BTW, perhaps the latest versions are OK, I haven't tried a newer version in a while as when I did it was crap, so I went back to 1.74.

@Rydian: SUPER is also a GUI for MENcoder and other encoders. WinFF is only a GUI for FFmpeg.
FFMPEG alone is enough to convert things to a PSP-accepted format, and like I said WinFF is much, much easier for a normal person to get and use.

People have always said that PSPVideo9 was slow and buggy, plus lacked functionality compared to alternatives. Certainly compared to XviD4PSP it seems a bit....basic?

I always felt it was a pretty decent tool, although the only other PSP specific tool I tried was PSPVC, which IIRC, was a bit of a hassle to get up and running because you had to install a bunch of codecs and some other supporting software, and I think I gave up because of all the crap I had to download, so never even got round to trying it out...

what settings do you recommed for a okish quality and small size? (or what do you put it on)

Please consider using this. I've tried other alternatives and they all seem bloated or overly simplistic.
I use this daily and absolutely love it. My desktop is a relatively old rig but using winmenc, which is essentially a front end to mplayers mencoder, encoding is very fast. AVC is terribly slow, so I choose the DIVX or XVID PSP MP4 profile detailed in the pic below. Everything I've thrown at Winmenc so far has played without fail. It's Free, open, and fast.

I am a PSP newbie so I am confused just by looking at this. Is this how PSP plays media? I think this might be more complex than .DPG. If this ends up too hard I will use a site which lets people download them already converted and ready to work. Updated daily too so it is convenient.

Using that setting, about what is the size ratio?

Only thing it has you install is the latest beta of CCCP
I recommend PSPVC. Mostly because it takes softsubs from mkvs
