It's the standard topics can always be relevant thing. Locking threads just for the sake of locking would defeat 75% of the purpose for a search function.

Too much work for no real pay in the end. If someone bumps something stupid, just report it and move along

We decide which necro-bumps to close and which to leave open on a case-by-case basis.
(so long as it gets noticed)

I dont see any problem with thread bumping as long as you don't bump just for the sake of bumping.
if you have something constructive to post in an old thread, why shouldnt you allowed to post?

Bumping an old thread at least shows that you've searched for an answer before making a new thread.

And locking it wouldn't save any noticeable amount of space (except via unlinking). Removing it would, but then again old threads sometimes hold great info.

It's fine as it is. If a bump is useless it can always be removed, and leaving threads open mean they're still open for people to post and ask a valid question.

Instead of locking topics because two people are arguing or a bunch of trolling/flaming is going on, suspend the offenders and delete their posts so that people who actually have something worthwhile to say can contribute.
