I would like to be able to find where the SWAV sound effects are located inside a SDAT file, for the purposes of extracting and maybe replacing them by hex editor.

Using ndssndext.exe I can either decode and dump all the sound effects to WAV, or just extract the SWAR (sound wave archive) files. There doesn't seem to be an option to extract the un-decoded SWAV files, and I can't figure out where/how they are stored.

Nitro Studio 2 is able to extract (and inject) SWAVs from the SWAR. Need to double click on the SWAR in question, then right click on the SWAV you need and export it.

It isn't exactly efficient, as you may have noted. But in all honesty music hacks have never been efficient for the DS. Not much you can do on that front.
