Nope never, setup straight outta the box

Never setup or straight out of a box doesn't mean anything with Switch. It could have been updated , formated and put back to box without making it looks like used. There is no seal on the box.

Yes well im a little confused too, hence my posting here. The back of my SMO cart is def 000, and the switch was new as far as i can tell. In the Switch Noob paradise thread i see another user with a brand new PAL switch also on 3.0.2 so im not alone. My question remains though, if im on 3.0.2 why is the cart asking to update if it has 3.0.1 on it - according to this thread. SMO is launch day purchase also so ive got 1st print batch. I will post a pic as proof if needed..

Maybe the kart has some software error which reads 3.0.2 as a lower firmware than 3.0.1. Still I would not try it on my console.

I own SMO d1 too and my switch is EU 3.0.1, are you sure his consol is not connected to WiFi at moment he launched the game?

Ok weird shit is going on but posting anyway for clarity. No this console has never been connected to wifi 100% sure.

I just tried to delete the data SMO creates under data management and now the game launches fine. The update nag is gone :/ I cannot get it to show now. I am still on 3.0.2. I dont know why it appeared before but put it down to a bug/glitch maybe.

Did you mean to quote my post? In that case i dont get what I did wrong.
Its strange for him to have a 000 cart and to get a update dialog. The maintenance mode to clear any updates and then a picture from the cart are reasonable to rule out any mistakes, no?
Even if he had a 001 cartridge it would run on 3.0.2

There is no difference in the boxing that you can rely on.
Its only likely that a T2 boxing of BotW will always include a 001 cart, not the other way around.
Same thing for all other games as far as we know.

This will only work with version 000. If it is 001 or above a higher firmware will be installed.

I bought it used and asked seller to show me back of the cart with serial.

Thats how I did it, too.
Go to a GameStop and get a used one (even tho they are as expensive as new ones from Amazon :/ )
Or ask in your local shop for returned games... They (Red/Blue) sell them on ebay later so that should not be a problem.

But why update in the first place? 2.3 is as good, if not even better than 3.0
Once CFW is out it's unimportant anyway

Not really if you mean CFW. If you are hurry for homebrew then maybe. I wouldn't update.
