Tried "My Neighbor Totoro". It works great!

On DVDs with menus, it gets a little complicated...

i tried My Neighbor Totoro and it just clicks 3 times and freezes. how do you play the movie? i tried every button and i can only get to the dvd menu.

Sorry if this has already been answered, I didn't feel like going through 9 pages... But does this hurt the laser? How do you delete the hidden 'channel?'

You can uninstall it using the installer.

I’ll leave to Erant to explain why, but as far as I know the idea that playing a DVD is harmful in any way to a drive is a myth.

ErantThe myth of you being able to ‘burn out’ a DVD laser is pretty much what it says on the tin, a myth. This drive was designed specifically for two things. reading Wii games, and reading DVD-Videos. There are special commands in the drive for doing so. (We use these commands to read these discs without a modchip). So, these drives were designed with reading DVD-Videos in mind. (And even if they wern’t, you’re running the entire drive in spec. I’ve been told these myths came about when people were pot-tuning their PS2s, running them out of spec. Running any piece of hardware beyond the limits that were set for it will break it in the long run)

That’s a ‘no’ to the second question. Unfortunatly, detecting these modchips isn’t an easy job. We’ll probably incorporate an auto-detect option into the DVDX installer at some point, but we were already kinda late, so we left it like this for now. (It’s also a small percentage of all modchips, think around 5-10%)

I have a question about the "invisible" channel that the DVD lib makes...can the channel be moved around like any other channel?

You can't see it and it's not on the menu. Hence being "invisible."

I may be wrong here but, From what I've read yes, Libdi is the software that allows the DVD reading, and Mplayer incorporates that software into allowing you to view DVD moves.

Why do I need PatchMii if I have a chip inside my Wii?

Rename the installer.dol to boot.dol and put it in a folder in the homebrew channel.
It will be one of the last things.

You don't NEED a meta.xml or icon.png

Every time I try to download PatchMii and the libdi it just says:

Forbidden

You don't have permission to access /patchmii_core.dol on this server.
Apache/2.2.8 (Ubuntu) PHP/5.2.4-2ubuntu5.3 with Suhosin-Patch Server at static.hackmii.com Port 80

I downloaded the mplayer fine, but it won't let me get these...

Try this, Go to this site, and Download the "Prepackaged lib/DVDX Installer"
Then there will be three folders,
Patchmii- (If you have a modchip)- If not dont worry about this.
Mplayer ( Copy this folder to the "Apps" folder on your SD)
Libdi (Copy this folder to the "Apps" folder on your SD)

Run Libdi" from the Homebrew Channel.
"Perform a normal" install". Once the install is finished,
Run Mplayer" From Homebrew Channel.
Insert DVD" Click "Play DVD" Enjoy the movie

Just a little question....its the 1st time im using Mplayer, and when i choose "Play DVD" the image "shrinks" and doesnt fit my TV screen....is this normal? Is there a way to fit the tv screen??

Thanks for your reply! But in the Preferences theres only the option "Frame Drop" and the Properties contains only information about the loaded video and doesnt allow to change the resolution which is 720×576... Is this version supposed to fit any dvd into any tv screen?

This works great! It looks just as good as it does on any DVD player, the sound is good if a little quiet, but can be fixed if you just turn your TV up. Now, it seems my little PS2 has no use...
