Let's play game journalist.

temp_press.png

It has been noted that game news websites, video channels and the like have been focusing on fewer and fewer titles on average these last few years. There have also long been questions of the efficacy and impartiality of such as well. What effect this has is up for debate but does see smaller things slip by the wayside, some often bizarre pushback, and others not achieve the measure of success their quality would predict. Going with the popular adage "if you want something done right then you gotta do it yourself" we decided to put together a little guide on the various sources of information available to the would be citizen journalist and list them all along with a general industry breakdown, and a few choice methods you might employ to get that bit more information and make sense of what you do have. Most of the methods are available for free in one form or another and yield a lot of what you might have seen over the years, both in games and at the world in general. To that end we invite you to share with the world what you found out about new games, old games, upcoming games and the history of it all, be it games that cost and earn more than the GDP of quite a few countries, or nice mods you found that allow you to still play some styles of game you enjoy.
Right now this is the first real attempt at a public release so we welcome comments, criticism and suggestions for further topics, new methods or expansion of existing ones. Never the less we hope it still finds itself being somewhat readable and informative.

So Sonic '06 was most AAA games released now, except without a Day 1 patch?

No, it was more like Fallout 76 because it was released so broken that's considered the worst game ever in the franchise with the possible exemption of Sonic Boom Rise Of Lyric.

In fact considering Silver and Blaze have been used again after Sonic 06, Lyric is definitely worse.

Then again Sonic Boom had many fan alienating premises besides just bad games.

Can't take this too seriously, I stopped after caring about gbatemp reviews after that terrible yo-kai watch review and how the reviewer called mods in to defend him when confronted about the inaccuracies and unjustified bashing of it

Reviews are mostly personal opinion but if you are going to make a review just to bash something make sure to at least do the research.

I kinda wish some reviews would start off with a deeper description of mechanics and game loop first before moving into their opinion. I care less and less about the capricious opinions of any reviewer and more about the mechanics and what they do or don't accomplish. Nothing more asinine then say a dynasty warrior review saying it's more of the same just a little better. What if I was going to pick only 1 or 2 dynasty warrior games to play, which are really the best?

I will give the pdf a read though.

There are many videos explaining games for people who never played them.

If you really really want to be a reporter nowadays you have to learn some HTML5 coding to do those interactive webpage articles that people always think are amazing as then they switch the Web Browser to Reader Mode because is still loading.

Of course that's for PAID reporting since doing an Interactive article with all Bells And Whistles takes a lot of time and effort.

That was literally press export from the editor just in case someone wanted it, more with an eye towards conversion to other formats. I could have embedded some stuff I guess (probably should stop short of all of them less I crash browsers), maybe found some iframe or similar candidates for some of the tools but it seemed like a lot of work for little gain (not to mention if I am doing technical stuff then it takes all I have to not do http://problemkaputt.de/gbatek.htm ). I am likewise not sure all fancy HTML5/canvas particularly serves a purpose both in general and for this -- I guess I prefer it to the click here to go to the next page so we can lie to our advertisers about traffic but it does otherwise feel like all style and no substance.

That said I should probably look into something there for the ROM hacking documents -- so much there is more apparent in video or animated form.

Why would they keep working on it after they shipped it out?

Because you can update games online both on the playstation 3 and Xbox 360?

Heck nowadays is quite common.

I guess the problem was that in 2006 not only having to update games on consoles to make them playable was something new but Internet was much much much slower.

Guys they didn't work on it after shipping.
They had a beta build, but it was so unstable they reverted to alpha before release

imo without at least a 30lbs dumbbell you won't get a lot of use out of em - and these max out at like 10lbs for each arm

first of all, there should be exactly zero reasons to place your sweaty balls on any of the equipment - generally you are supposed to wear clothing at the gym
