Let's Guess: Switch 2 launch price and offering

Switch 2 mockup with question marks

With a Switch 2 reveal hopefully on the horizon, the question is how much will Nintendo ask for the base model at launch and what will their launch offerings be?

Analysts have previously predicted that the Switch 2 will be somewhat of an iterative upgrade, which would be unlike Nintendo's past strategies that famously involved a radical new approach such as the dual screen Nintendo DS, Wii with its motion controls as well as the dual screen Wii U to name just a few. But if we know Nintendo then we're sure there will be a curve ball somewhere in the mix!

While an initial price of $400 USD was also previously estimated, the recent surge in component prices as well as the general cost of living; could we perhaps be looking at at $450-500 USD handheld from Nintendo?

Also, what of the launch titles and offerings? How will Nintendo sell and promote the Switch 2? What games will be available at launch? Will we see a new Mario title ready for launch or perhaps Metroid Prime 4 with Switch 2 enhancements? These are all questions that we're eager to know the answer to.

To take a look back; the Switch released back in March of 2017 at a suggested MSRP $299.99 in the United States, £279.99 in the United Kingdom, and $469.95 in Australia with similar regional pricing across EU regions. It launched alongside the critically acclaimed TLOZ: BOTW as well as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe a month later with other heavy hitters such as Super Mario Odyssey coming later that same year. It was a hugely successful launch but was plagued with supply issues, scalpers following the huge demand. The success of the Switch helped bounce Nintendo back to fame after the poorly received Wii U.

Contest:

Here's where you, the community come in! We want to hear your predictions for the Switch 2 - more specifically we want your predictions for the following:
  • Name - will it even be called the Switch 2? Nintendo are known for some pretty crazy naming schemes! Super Switch? Switcheroo? Switchy and Scratchy?
  • Launch price (base model) - guess the MSRP of the Switch 2 for the base console, standalone, no games
  • Release date - when will the Switch 2 launch in the USA?
  • Launch titles (launch window) - what games will Nintendo launch the Switch 2 alongside? (Let's keep this to a 3 month window from the release date)
  • Any other predictions - Go crazy and let us know what new features or gimmicks Nintendo will add to the Switch 2! Will there be full backwards compatibility? Will it include direct streaming to your TV without the need for docking? We want to hear your ideas!

I hope the name would be super nintendo switch that is some heavy reference right there...price maybe $ 450 , release date holidays lf 2024 and launch titles possibly a lot o enhancements for switch 1 titles , new mario , zelda maybe new ip and mk 9 other predictions is that it will have nso with gamecube and wii...magnetic joycons run most things at stable 1080p 60fps minimum

It'll have native 4K support with AI integration, two screens, be faster than a PS5 Pro, backwards compatible with Nintendo Labo, have a battery life of 24 hours and sell for $200. AI sold seperately. It will be forwards compatible with games for the next Xbox.

This prediction was brought to you by "industry sources".

Name New Switch
Launch price (base model) $400
Release date 19th November 2024
Launch titles (launch window) New 3D Mario game
Any other predictions Backwards Compatibility, OLED in the base model

I'm so tired of this. I mean, this thread wants us to participate which is okay but reading all those "Switch 2" news and seeing those (partly AI generated) YouTube videos on that subject over the past few years... at this point I'm just waiting for the announcement and deal with it.

However my guess is 400 $, Switch 2, April 1st 2025, Mario Kart 9, Hall sensor joycons. :)

i would say

  • Switch Now or Switch II
  • £399 base model
  • Release Date June 2025
  • Launch titles would be a new zelda game to follow TOTK, Mario Party, a new series of mini games like they have with mii avatars
  • A new style of docking station which allows the screen to be used for maps, HUD or quick action buttons. a function that can allow 4 players to connect to the dock and allow further distance for players controllers

Switch U, $450, March 2025th, new Mario 3D, neuroupscaling and AI-driven frame generations. :grog:

  • Name - Nintendo Jump
  • Launch price (base model) - 300$
  • Release date - Q3 2025
  • Launch titles (launch window) - A 3D Mario Game (obvs), a Gimmick game to show off new features of the hardware, GTA V (lol)
  • Any other predictions - Full backwards compatibility with Nintendo Switch, No headphone jack (), two cartridge slots for epic gaming, a slot for 5G connectivity to play online on the go
I went a lil silly but its all in good fun.

Name:
Nintendo Switch Infinity
I think they'll stick with the "Switch" branding but add a futuristic twist to emphasize extended capabilities, perhaps hinting at endless possibilities for gaming.

Launch Price: $449 USD for the base model.
Given the rise in component costs and inflation, I think it will be more expensive than the original Switch, but they’ll try to keep it competitive.

Release Date: March 22, 2025
Nintendo loves March releases, just like the original Switch. It aligns with their fiscal year-end and gives them time to build hype throughout early 2025.

Launch Titles:
- Super Mario Odyssey 2: A new 3D Mario game is almost a given. It's a huge system seller.
- A Pokémon spin-off game: They might tease something bigger down the line, but a spin-off (perhaps a Mystery Dungeon sequel) could fill the gap.

Other Predictions:
- Backward Compatibility: Fully backward compatible with Switch 1 games but enhanced with improved resolution and frame rates.
- New Gimmick: Built-in Cloud Streaming to allow instant play on TVs without docking Nintendo loves experimenting with hardware. Maybe there will even be a way to stream the Switch to multiple TVs at once for party games!
- Pro Controller Bundles: I could see them offering bundles with a special edition pro controller featuring a new Mario theme.

Nintendo has never had a "2" in a console name. Perhaps it could be a Switch Pro, Switch U, or New Switch. Or maybe not have the name Switch at all. But I can just about guarantee the one thing it won't be called is Switch 2, or any similar variation of.

My best guess on the name would be Switch U.
$399 seems like the probable price point.
Release date - Sunday, November 16, 2025
Launch Titles - Some sort of game that shows off any new features. Featuring multiple Nintendo IPs. Probably a sequel to NintendoLand, named something like NintendoLand U.

Would be freaking hilarious if a Nintendo employee comes in here and randomly drops all the info. But won't be taken serious because of this silly game thread.

Name: Switch 2 /Switch XR
Base price: $399
Pro price with 1 bundled game: $450
Features: VR attachment and hires of old games
Games: Zelda and Mario VR

Name: twin or duo
Price: 350 bucks
Release Date: probably early november next year
Launch titles: mario wonder 2 (or a different name, but same engine/idea), Zelda TOTK, some casual sports/party game, and a handful of ports of other companies. And the systeem seller. Wild guess, but a metroid prime entry
Gimmick: like the Switch, they're going with a handheld/tv hybrid. The gimmick is likely something that utilizes this. Something like augmented reality and/or GPS.
