Deadpool and Wolverine

Deadpool and Wolverine saves the multiverse with cameos.

Not as good as Deadpool 1, but better than Deadpool 2 (that stupid child actor was cringy as fuck). Hoping there's a Deadpool 4/Deadpool and Wolverine 2.
Probably an X-Factor movie before Secret Wars?

She has a resemblance with James McAvoy... 🤔 wonder if she'll apear again.
 
Humanist Vampire Seeking Consenting Suicidal Person. Wholesome vampire comedy. Basically Let the Right One In if it wasn't depressing.
 
Halloween 6. Didn't much like the cult storyline, but quite liked the main redhead. Dr Loomis also always a pleasure, not in that way. Fairly watchable/10.

The Cabin in the Woods. Very smart and funny horror/comedy. It holds up very well, though I think it's best on first viewing. I still remembered some of the twists and turns the movie took. The CG was also dated. Nitpicks aside, it's an essential horror movie.

Halloween (2018), making the jump to another alternate timeline. Enjoyed this one, JLC rocking age with style, always love Judy Greer, and the third generation girl was good too. Some fun gore and stuff.

No Country for Old Men. Probably the best Coen Brothers film. I wouldn't say it's the most entertaining, that would be Fargo. But as far as pure cinematic value, this movie is at the highest possible level. Strong acting performances, including a bone-chilling all-timer performance from Javier Bardem, superb writing and directing, amazing cinematography, a distinct lack of score that enhances the tense and scary atmosphere of the movie, it's a masterpiece of a movie. It more than deserved the awards it got.
 
I watched Alien Romulus, and for a movie that's supposed to tie the first two films together, it did nothing of the sort.

I watched V/H/S Beyond, and it was pretty good. Didn't expect to see Corridor Digital in the film, that was a super cool surprise.
 
Adam the First (2024)
That was such a nice and touching movie, they don't make often such a drama like that.

Corner Office (2022)
The first person perspective narration of quite excentric office worker is just hilarous.

I watched these Thanksgiving related movies this week.

Home Sweet Home (1981) - Barely a Thanksgiving movie. Boring and unwatchable early 80s slasher movie. Literally unwatchable because it's so dark most of the time and there's no high-quality version, I had to watch a VHS transfer posted on YouTube.

Kristy - Set during Thanksgiving, but not many references to the holiday. Decent reverse slasher movie from 2014. I was mixed on the lead girl, but I enjoyed the main villain in the movie, played by Ashley Greene.

Thanksgiving - First Eli Roth movie I've seen. It was a decent slasher movie, most certainly represents Thanksgiving, loads of references, and a distinct feel for the movie that reminds me of 80s and 90s slashers. The killer's identity is super predictable and some of the acting is bad, but the gore and dark humor help keep things afloat.

Blood Rage - Best Thanksgiving horror movie ever. An underrated slasher gem from the early 80s, a supreme display of bad acting, dope practical effects, and hilarious moments, mostly unintentional.

Planes, Trains, and Automobiles - Wholesome and hilarious movie I watch every Thanksgiving.

Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends were fairly decent followups, didn't thoroughly love the Ends storyline but I've seen worse in other Halloween continuities :rofl2: Satisfying ending anyway.

The Rob Zombie versions, first one was pretty solid, interesting new takes on the characters, second one I wasn't super into the white light/glowy figures direction, but still likeable characters. Don't approve of Michael Myers making all those vocal noises while doing the murders tho, I prefer him to be a strong silent type.

Halloween 3 - Season of the Witch: rlybad/10. Maybe don't watch if you have photosensitive epilepsy, but also maybe don't watch anyway.

All done, at least until the TV show comes along, or they decide to do a 50th anniversary movie...

A Better Tomorrow. John Woo masterpiece, easily my favorite in his filmography, though I need to watch more of his Hong Kong movies. I haven't seen The Killer and Hard-Boiled for example. This is the 200th movie I watched this year, and that was by design. I wanted to celebrate by watching a classic. Surprisingly, the movie only has a handful of action scenes, it feels more of a drama than anything, verging on a soap opera. It's about a triad member who went to prison after a counterfeit money deal gone bad. His dad was killed, his brother resents him, and his best friend suffers from exacting revenge for him. It's such a bro movie, it highlights brotherhood in the familial and friendship sense. Li Tung and Leslie Cheung were great as the brothers, but Chow Yun Fat stole the show! So badass and awesome. The shot of him smoking a cigarette with a flaming dollar bill is pure cinema.

Kills is worth a watch too, tho as you'd know from Ends, you'll have to be prepared to

They're Playing with Fire - This was a doozy. It's an erotic thriller, a murder mystery, a slasher movie, and an unintentional comedy. It's easily on the "so bad it's good" territory. The acting was hilariously bad! The only actor who didn't suck and frankly carried the movie was Sybil Danning. She also got naked for the movie, definitely earned some points for me. It's a fun movie overall, I laughed so many times and even laughed when watching the Siskel and Ebert segment on it, as well as some Letterboxd reviews. It's also lowkey a Christmas movie!

Black Christmas (1974)- Undeniable proto-slasher classic. Still holds up, I watch it every year. It's scary at points, but there are also a bunch of hilarious moments. Still wild that the director of this made A Christmas Story 10 years later. Black Christmas is 50 years old! That's crazy.

It was Venom 3, it felt kinda weird to tell the truth, not bad but the plot felt a little all over the place, hard to enter in details without talking about it and always better to watch stuff blind.
It had its fun moments tho, and kinda felt more like a comedy than an action movie.
 
Heretic - Decent horror movie with a mostly great performance from Hugh Grant. I had only read praise for Grant, but what about Sophie Thatcher and Chloe East? They were just as good as he was. Sweet cinematography, cool set design, and some interesting conversations over religion, belief, and disbelief. It's a little too long and some of the stuff Grant said reads like a chronically online Reddit user, and the last third kind of falls apart. I wouldn't put it high on the best of horror list of 2024, but it's a nice addition to what's been a great year for horror.

Red One - It's a lump of coal. Bad CG, JK Simmons is not in the movie enough, Dwayne plays the same character he plays, Chris Evans doesn't impress much. Lucy Liu was a treat to see, but her character is unremarkable. I liked Kiernan Shipka in this, I would've liked more of her, more chilling stares at least. The movie is kind of boring, the action sequences are either bland or just shit because of the CG. The concept of the movie is at least interesting, but the execution is bad. A splashy Hollywood blockbuster that's quickly sent to streaming, a more stylish action movie directed by a veteran would've made this better. Hell, Michael Bay could've made this better. Not worth watching unless you got no other Christmas action/comedy to watch and you're dying to see one.
