I think I've lost my best friend who I've known since I was in kindergarten (I'm 14 years old now).
He lives pretty far away and with my parents splitting up, my parents lost contact with my friend's parents, I used to talk to my friend almost every day until my parents split, I hadn't spoken to him for I'd say, about 3 months and then he sends me this on Facebook: "do you know that nx cards are coming to Australia" (We used to play Maplestory) before he sent me that (and before the rough 3 months) I think we were both on Facebook chat and we had a 10 min chat. We used to talk nearly every day and now there's nothing. I could always call him but the problem is, we have nothing to talk about now. Before, we had something to talk about everyday, (Our conversations could be like an hour long) I used to see him in person every 2 weeks but because of my parents splitting, that no longer happens. I really miss him and as far as I can tell our friendship is gonna be gone forever, nearly in tears writing this (would be if my dad wasn't on the chair not too far away) that's how much the friendship mattered to me.

He's still your friend. I only occasionally talk to my best friend (also from kindergarten), and we never really find something to talk about either, but we still consider ourselves best friends.

Does he live far away from you, or not?

Yeah (Wish I could end with 1 word xD) about 2-3 hours by car meaning a train ride would be even longer

Hm... well, if he really is your best friend, and he considers you his too, then I doubt you'd "lose" each other. Once I stopped seeing this very close friend of mine for about a year, then when I saw her again we kind of fighted a lot, but then we "worked things out" and while I don't see her as often as I did before I can still feel we're really close, even if we haven't talked in a while.

I thought I lost my best friend a while ago. We didn't talk, like, at all for almost two years, thankfully fate brought us back together and now we have like 3-4 hour conversations every day. our record is a 9 hour conversation with no breaks or anything. Yeah, if they're really your best friend nothing will get between you.

I also have a best friend from kinder who I barely get to talk to or hang out with anymore. Ironically, my house is within walking distance from his. Constant communication isn't really a good indicator of your friendship's longevity. Some friends can talk once a year and they act like no time has passed.

Lol indeed. Two of my good friends have pretty busy lives, so we usually only talk maybe...once every two months? if that. But we're still good friends.

Does your friend play any MMOs? Do you like MMOs?
Good way to keep long distance friendships going strong.

While I may not be the first port of call when it comes to advice I have noticed many people will drift apart as years go on- one phone call/email (and perhaps a bit of logistics) and a drunken night will be set up without so much as a moments hesitation.

Also 2-3 hours is nothing once transport becomes more apparent (granted Victoria is 18 for driving if memory serves- not sure about motorbikes). Not to mention if you meet halfway then life is even better (assuming it is not inland then there are some awesome coastal towns within a hour and a half of Melbourne).

I know where you come from man. I have had several friends move far away. A few best friends too. :/ Nothing can ever serve as a replacement.
