I too, couldn't get into this game.

It looked like a new, exciting IP. I really dug the mechanics, and features. I really enjoyed the combat.

But the story was meh, and the characters were beyond horrible.

I couldn't stand to read anything my whiny, punk of a bitch main character said. I get they what they were going for, but they overshot it and made a whiny little emo brat. He was only slightly more irritating to me than Tidus(I think that was his name) from FF10 but atleast I could finish that game.

I can power through games with not great mechanics if the story hooks me, or a simple game with a great story, but once I lose interest in a story, and even worse the characters its game over. See what I did there.

Edit: The art was nice. I will say that. The style not the character and level design.

In my opinion, I enjoyed TWEWY. It certainly wasn't my favorite DS game of all time, (That would be Henry Hatsworth and Trauma Center 2.) but I pleasently welcomed the different approach in RPGs.

The first week started off slowly, but it became interesting, after Joshua made his appearance. From that point, the story was good enough for me to continue on, the battle system was more fun than before.

From what I've seen, it's very much a love it or hate it type of game.

Too much grinding and the Pin upgrading system was frustrating and unclear.. I was halfway through the game before i found out that i couldn't upgrade my pins cuz i was doing it the wrong way.

After that i just got bored and let it go.

Just my take on it. My 14yr old brother liked it and finished it (I am 18).

Glad to hear that you, like many other people, enjoyed the wonder of the DS that is TWEWY.

Unfortunately, the chances for a sequel are very slim as the game did not sell phenomenally well, being a somewhat obscure title.

And I really don't see a story for a sequel as everything was answered in my opinion, perhaps you didn't collect all the secret reports as mentioned before? There's a secret day also, that might tie up the last loose ends for you.

I played it for a few hours to give it a chance but it never really got interesting for me. BTW the fighting on both screens is a lame gimmick, but most people seem to like the game. It's definitely different.

If fighting on both screens is a lame gimmick then why do you have a DS? It was made so you could play on both screens.

QUOTEI couldn't stand to read anything my whiny, punk of a bitch main character said. I get they what they were going for, but they overshot it and made a whiny little emo brat.

Word.

I played it, loved the battle system once I got the hang of it but at the start it was very difficult. Depends on if you can grasp the way it works, the pins idea was cool but the clothing brands and all that was kinda pointless, you could use whatever you wanted and got them to the top in a few battles, it gave it more depth but I guess didn't make the game any better. I'm a fan of it but I can see it's flaws and wtf? you have to re-complete every level plus more to find out who Mr H is, so not worth it. You can tell from the 3rd secret report he's some guy reporting on what happens in the game, what more is there to know and wtf is yukata ramen?

This is not entirely true. I got almost all the secret reports from the first two weeks in my first game (except the ones from the Noise bosses, the blue ones). Actually, from the second report i was suspecting of mr. H being the one behind, but when I read another one about the Taboo noises an the origin, I wanted to get al the secret reports (also the added scene in the ending)

The game was great and I really don't know why people are so paranoid about "Emo" and "Whinny" main characters: sounds like you like us to think you were never a whinny annoying teen once, only I know you all were one and in some cases still are.

In any case I could never get all the secret reports because I never got used to playing with both screens at the same time. I managed to beat the game on easy but when I tried to unlock some of the reports that require us to beat a boss in hard mode I just couldn't do it. I never thought, however, that I was underleveled and underequiped so I might try that next.

I loved the storyline, and almost everything, but the gameplay was kinda messy. You have 2 screens, and most of the time you would be controlling Neku, and setting the other character to Auto mode. The only time I used the top character was when i wanted to use combination attacks, otherwise I couldn't care less.

Yeah Neku, was a complete jerk for the first part but in the 2nd week and beyond

it was like he had a mind change. I also didn't use the top screen that much until maybe half way through the second week. I just left it on auto, however once you prioritized the time between your own character and the top screen, its worthwhile.
Also yeah i have got most of the secret reports, but i really want to know about this secret, day or week, cant remember which.
The ending was immense, but it wasn't shocking and huge as i was expecting i knew something was up with "one specific character i wont name for spoilers".
Oh and WOW

Well I'm sure some awesome person has posted all the reports online, or a guide to them so you can see the scene at the end if you want to know what they're about that badly. I don't like cheating, cept in pokemon for event pokemon that I'll never get. Meh.

I didn't mind that he was a jerk, he was just such a crappy jerk. I hate the world for a reason I forgot when I started the game. Great premise. I think they wanted him to be badass but failed.

I turned off auto altogether on the third day cos I realised it gave me more PP, I mastered using both after a couple of battles. Focus on the bottom and only check the top when you get knocked over. With Joshua I just used his floating attacks cos they pretty much own everything.

I played with both the screens for the third day too, because if you can coordinate both attacks with the light puck is easier to Sync Up (or LVL UP).

Also, i don't like to cheat too, that's why i get the secret reports with my own hands, and saw the full ending. ( I wanted to see what happend with one person in the ending too, but the ending lacked of the extension and impact of the ending in other games, beside the message at the end).

Don't know if it's been posted yet, but here's a really good "postmortem" article by one of the developers. He discusses some of the challenges in making such a unique game, things that went well, things that didn't, etc. I found it to be a good read.

Good news, he doesn't rule out a sequel.

Well IMO, TWEWY is a good game but not like 'OMFG it needs a sequel,'

When I first play the game it was about some kind of adolescent that didn't care for anyone but himself. The first week was dry since it was mostly about Neku getting use to the UG and other stuff he didn't pay attention too in RG like trends, fashion, and other stuff. When it got to the second week, that's when everything started to pick up.

Even though I played that game when I was age 20 till now 21. It didn't really impact me a lot since I don't go outside much plus it doesn't have that 'feel' to where I can connect with it. The pin system was frustrating depending on what you evolution you was going for. Most of them are helpful when it comes to att/pow and usage before the reboot.

In all it was just a game with new angle to show that the DS can do that and much more. I'm not looking forward to a sequel since the original was about showing Neku how to be more sociable and not like an anti-socialist. I mean if a sequel was to come out, what will they do with it? Will it be more like wi-fi connectivity or just another cliche sequel with different pins and cycle evolutions and etc.

However, trying to get all the accomplishments and completing the secret day should take a while, and I don't think that should get boring anytime soon.

I would KILL for a sequel nonetheless

Same here, oh my geez.

It's one of the best games created on the DS, I reckon.

If they made a sequel, my advice would be to keep the concept and ditch the characters. Using the same idea of a second Shibuya would be fine, with the Composer and so on. Just don't use any of the same characters, or if you do make it a cameo or something. Make a whole new story in the same universe.
