Hi,

first of all, I'm sorry if this is being asked countless times, but I want to be extra-special safe that I don't brick anything.

I just wanted to ask which SysUpdater to use? SafeSysUpater? Normal SysUpdater? Also, I've seen too many forks of SysUpdater around the internet, so it's hard to choose.

Any advice, I'd be very greatful for. :)

Thanks.

I think Safesysupdater is the safest ;)
Rly? I've heard that it's more dangerous than the normal SysUpdater. :/

Although I did use it just now to check my MD5s and everything was good.

I didn't downgrade yet though.

I downgraded mine with sysupdater cause safesysupdater wasn't out yet. I heard safesysupdater auto checks if you have the right files?

Honestly it's all a matter of just having the correct files, if safesysupdater reported that, then you should be good. I used the original sysupdater which deleted all the new titles and then installed all the old titles, which if something failed would result in an instant brick. I'm pretty sure that every new sysupdater all use a method of deleting the old title and installing the new title one by one, and most importantly installing native_firm last.

Edit: there really is no 100% guarantee, just use safetysysupdater if it says you have the correct files. Downgrading is risky but if you followed every possible precaution and step beforehand you should have a good chance of success

Hmm... Still slightly confused about it. So you're telling me you used the safesysupdater to check if everything was there, and then you used the regular sysupdater to downgrade?

Safesysupdater give me error in the middle of the process on a 9.8 n3ds xl that I bought, resulting in a softbrick.
Then I used sysupdater and everything was ok, of course I had a hardmod before attempt to downgrade.
Could you link me to the sysupdater you used.

Awesome. I'll try everything out now, then.

I believe this version of sysupdater is still the best: https://gbatemp.net/threads/simple-guide-to-downgrading-your-3ds.407888/page-95#post-5923820
The difference is not big between the version you used and this one though. The main difference is that one uses SUlib and the other uses libkhax.

Since it softbricked, you don't have much choice except update to 10.5 through recovery mode. You can still downgrade if you get a hardmod, so all hope is not lost.

Boot without the SD card inserted like @ChrisHorne said. If that doesn't help, you'll have to update through recovery mode.

Nevermind. Phew!

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

I removed the SD card and it works! I might try a second time with Jdbye's suggestion.

Safesysupdater does not install native_firm last from my experience.
