Current Unstable : 0.1
Current Stable : None

Due to the frozen-like state of the current Jump Ultimate Stars Translation project, I'm thinking of making my own fork project.

There are many reasons for this fork.
First, and I don't want to offense anyone, I don't like the way the project is managed, from a free-for-all wiki-like translation to a paranoïd closed one.
No effort at all have been made about how a translation patch will be done, and sadly, it shows, we are close to a year since the start of the project and I was somehow "hired" to clean things up and reduce the delay.
The whole philosophy of the project, as it can be read in the corresponding thread, does not appeal to me : closed beta patchs, for example, stated "for debugging" while the debugging was done before the patch is made, people being "hired" to be part of the debug team, often seen as some kind of gift from the team.
Then there's the lacking part of the translation text, FAST6191 initial dump was partial and some important part were completly overlooked.

On my side, in response to the request for help I've received on janury 2nd, I've already made a working patch system, changed the various fonts in the game, extracted ALL the text, made a graphic extracter, decyphered the ALAR file format, ... All in something like a week.
For me it's quite clear that this project can be handled better, from my point of view, and it's what I'm aiming at.
Now there's the matter of the already done translation. It's hard for me to tell which part was translated by who and to give proper credits.
So anyone can pm me to claim some of the translations, and I'll be happy to include them in this new project or, if they don't want to join, give them credit or remove their translation if they want it.
About the patch schedule, my fork project will release a patch by the end of the week.
In fact the patch is already there, but I'd rather clean some things up before releasing it, and I'm waiting for early response to this topic before making such move.

That's my main problem with current translation project. Some decisions don't make a whole lot of sense, however I'm not the one to complain.

Apparently, there's no need for multiple projects to achieve the exact same thing. Why don't you come over to the initial project team instead of forking your own? I believe you would have much more voice over some aspects of project management, than us, beggers (also known as end-users).

you know you can count me on

I m in this project since september when the project gonna die because of piece.bin !!!!!! the encyclopedia !!!!!

a lot of thing has been made
chr_b_t.bin is something like 1/3 clean and ready to use
and this file is THE big part of the game

we don(t need debug team, we need content checker and people who can translate

Why a new project ? it s only because we need a new approach for finish this project (excuse us abel but maybe you need to play the game before managed such project)

I'm going to make a comment... which will probably get a less than favorable response... the only reason he has that much finished is that he swooped in and is working off the already completed files. This isn't news, it is fact that he admits in his first post. People who have read the other thread (the whole thing) have seen my involvement in the project. I came in late in the game, about the same time as Geunt.

At this point I am all for a project completion... but I think we need a little more amiable discussion, instead of a coup de tat. Project management needs to be revised, agreed, but I think we, as a community, are going about it wrong.

It's not true, you are making the same mistake made by this project from the start.
Making a translation is not only translating, it's also romhacking.
And on this topic, your project had... nothing.
I've never said anywhere that I had translated something. I'm just saying that I know how to produce patch, and how to edit the text in the game. But almost all of the "completed files" you talk about are not so completed. Why ? Because, no one ever bothered to thing about how it will look ingame, and it seems people have forgotten that doing a game translation is not all about editing text files.
I'm really not blaming you because the files on which you are working are the only ones where some thinking has been done about how it will look ingame.
I'm also wanting a fork because I think the past project needs to be started off new grounds and better foundations, it's not a takeover and I'm not preventing anyone from working in the past project. I'm making the fork because I'm up to the point where I've involved too much time to see it lost...

Its a matter of opinion in what way the patch should go, and personally, I like this method better. It's also not like hes taking full credit, he asked for names so he could give them credit. Hes taking a mis-managed project, and turning it around, into something that will end the people going "oh my god wheres the patch". People get mad that people don't want to read 120 pages of posts. In my opinion, this fork will just better the project. I had more to go with this, but I forgot it, I will add it later.

You have no problems from me for whatever you want to do (I have said many times in the thread if another hacker wants to have a pop use anything: it is part of the reason the project is conducted as openly as it is, not to mention you already did a bunch of stuff at the start).

As for not caring what it looked like: I can assure it I do care but translation was the major hangup (translators came and went although the latest people are doing good) and hacking can be done at just about any time (as your work shows).

If you can do it right, then you have my support (deufeufeu always seems like he knows what he's doing anyway, so none of us have to worry). Although my support is pretty much worth... nothing. I could provide programming tips but deufeufeu already seems like a better programmer that I am.

deufeufeu is right

making translation without thinking about in-game rendering is a lost of time.
each files need to have proprieties for number of characters in each lines
actually we ve checked a lot of files and somes need a lot of rewrite because of this (ex: rulemess.bin)
Just let thinking about what have been made, translation......without hack..... and when you think 2 kanjis can make a 6 word sentences ........

nothing has been stolen, all script for insert/extract and rom hack has been made by deufeufeu and All translation used belong to crisistunity site, so belong to the community. you want credits for what you ve done ? just tell us what you ve done and it s sure you ll be mention !!!!!
we don t want to start a war or something, we just want to make a great translation project !!!!!!

it s our choice to make a new project because we need a new approach
ex : debugging.

why debug something you can see in 5 sec in game, we can see error rapidly, so we need content checker, all glitch we encounter are space saving based

@deufeufeu Thank you for the clarification. That was one of my concerns as well. I could only go from the knowledge of the files I had access to edit. I will admit that geunt and I were actually concerned with the logic behind how the files worked. I guess I gave too much credit that the other file owners had a similar concern...

I have a technical background, I do tech support for that matter... but also have a programming background, so I understand the structures and call in files. I am willing to work in the new project and the old project too. If this is the kick start it needs to get it finished, then LETS GO!

I am in for whatever will bring my hard work and research to fruition. If we have to rollback a little and redo some work, then lets get started.

I really like this idea, I mean it sounds a lot more like you care about getting a patch out there. I wasn't too thrilled with the whole "you'll get a patch when it's done" thing. Not that the other project was crap, I just think this will be better managed by people who have more time and knowledge to piece it all together.

This may give us all what we've wanted.......that or give the other team a kick in the pants and they'll work faster on theirs. Lol, maybe we'll get two patches for it, or maybe the other guys will see your work and suggest a merging of minds.

At any rate KUDOS to you deufeufeu!

Well I hope this doesn't start a war between the 2 translating groups. And I honestly don't care who finishes first, as long as some form of a patch is released!!

I think the reason the project is the way it is now is because of all the noobs coming in and begging/complaining/demanding a patch.

I don't like the idea of two translation projects. Expecially since both are on GBAtemp. We're all friends, we should be able to negotiate. Personally, I think you and fast's efforts should be combined. I don't think competition would benifit anyone in this situation. No on eis getting paid to do this, it's all out of love of the game.

-My 1.5 cents.

Given half the people responsible for both projects have already posted saying OK/I am here to help/go for it....... people can be assured of no war. We both seem to be in it for the game rather than for the first to the finish line side of things.

I do however propose a friendly contest, pinging ideas off each other/ demoing different concepts sounds like a sure fire way to make things better.

If that is so, both projects have nothing but encouragement from me.
