"I'm busy with my new job lately (busy and tired) and seeing how I haven't been very successful evangelizing in the past, what if instead of being anoying someone posted for help in those forums? You know, say it's translation the wiki style, how 80% of the game has already been translated, include a link to this forum and to the webapp (crisistunity.com/justp/), that Naruto and Vegeta are in the game, etc..."

I think I interpreted this wrong though, lol.

This patch is 80% done? Whoa!!!!!!! Keep it up, and please don't cancel.

I'm sorry but did I miss a post or is it still at 46%?

No, he missed a post ^^
Actually only ~42.31% has been translated so far. I counted all translated lines except for chr_b_t.bin and chr_s_t.bin.

CODE
Â#    file        lines in file  translated   Â%

3    chr_b_t.bin    Â1891      Â~453      Â24.00% (% taken from site, probably inaccurate)
4    chr_s_t.bin    Â1638      Â~360      Â22.00% (% taken from site, probably inaccurate)
5    clearlst.bin    110       110       100%

15   Âtitle.bin     Â42       Â42       Â100%
16   Âtutorial0.bin   Â78       Â78       Â100%
17   Âtutorial1.bin   Â52       Â52       Â100%
18   Âtutorial2.bin   Â112       107       95.54%
19   Âtutorial3.bin   Â72       Â72       Â100%
20   Âtutorial4.bin   Â36       Â36       Â100%
21   Âtutorial5.bin   Â80       Â71       Â88.75%
22   Âtutorial.bin    257       161       62.65%
+-------+------------------+---------------+---------------+--------+
Total           Â6408      Â~2711      42.31%

As you can see the percentages on the site aren't correct. tutorial2.bin is 95.54% translated, but according to the site it is 100.89% translated.

I hope no ones getting disheartened, I'd say 42.3% is still great progress!!

And like the others said, If the chr_b_t.bin and chr_s_t.bin are going to take too long I'd love a preliminary patch with the other stuff done, until all the rest is working!

I always get confused when navigating Jump Ultimate Stars menu. This'll be a very helpful patch to the game. I can't wait for this, keep up the good work.

First translation requests, it seems I am on holiday come next Friday so things can happen then.

Mithrandir pointers in this game are a pain, this file especially.

There is a pointer table until 29b8

Arrange your editor to a 12byte window and flip numbers (32bit here)
Take the value below 29b8 (in this case 29ac) and subtract from 29b8 (giving c in the earlier example). Add this subtraction onto 29b8 to give a pointer (29c4 which is the start of a text section). Do it for the next one to get 29d0..... If you are going to try your hand I advise you get a spreadsheet app with hex support and recalculate that way (no automated app I have ever seen will pull this one off). At this time I am not sure what the rest of map does but it looks like an identifier chunk.

What you should see:
CODE00000000 | FF00 29B8 0000 2817 0000 0000 ..)...(.....
0000000C | 0000 29AC 0000 2817 0000 0000 ..)...(.....
00000018 | 0000 29A0 0000 2817 0000 0000 ..)...(.....
00000024 | 0000 2999 003C 5233 0000 0001 ..)......

00000108 | 0000 28E7 0052 3321 0000 0007 ..(..R3!....
Thanks!
Using this method, I've been trying to calculate the first ones to see If I got it right, but something is wrong...
This are the first pointers:
29C4, 29D0, 29D7, 29E3, 29EF, 29F4, 2A00, 2A0C, 2A13
The first 3 seem to be valid (they point to a byte right after a 00 byte). But 29E3, 29F4, 2A00, 2A0C and 2A13 seem to point to the middle of a string... (29EF and 2A13 appear to be valid though)
Here is how I calculated 29E3: 29B8 - 298D + 29B8

Also, the file I dumped seem to be a slightly different than yours. Yours start with FF00 29B8 0000 2817, but mine starts with 0000 29B8 0000 2817.
I dumped the file using:
ndstool -x jump.nds -9 arm9.bin -7 arm7.bin -y9 y9.bin -y7 y7.bin -d tmp -y overlay -t banner.bin -h header.bin

too bad those last few files have soo much lines, it makes translators discouraged to move on seeing as how there are soo much lines.

aw well...a few at a time...cant take it all at once..

Sorry I missed the reply Mithrandir, I will have take a look (this game uses some of the most obtuse pointer systems I have ever encountered).
I am not sure how the erroneous FF appeared either (I used an old version of ndstool for this part of the job which may be the cause), it should not affect the final thing though as that will be a hex editor job.

@silvershadow Those lines that need translation, at least of the manga descriptions, I am more than happy to have appear (or be referenced from) one of the various fan sites/encyclopedia sites or even get someone to write up their own. The are pretty much an intro to the series and most of the little things

Everyone else today was my final exam so aside from being officially unemployed rom hacking is going to happen.

40+% is still really good progress.

the translation started not too long ago. it shouldn't be too long till its finished.

btw. just need to ask. since its just a translation, will our old .sav files still work with the patched version?

@Xgen001 I have no intention of touching the save system: I am using a completed save I swiped from dualscene to test this anyhow.

About the 40% thing enough has been done to make the game more than playable

@everyone else, you are reading too much into my unemployed comment: I just meant I no longer have the student cover to hide behind. Before I mess around with the obtuse pointers for the long files I plan on doing graphic menus and stuff like music, levels and such.

Have you guys tested it yet?
To see if it works?
I heard some guys were translating then the whole thing got messed up and they couldn't run it.

Eventhough the New 3DS XL is more powerful, I still feel like the DS Lite was a more polished system. It's a real shame that it never got an XL variant keeping the GBA slot. You'd have to go on AliExpress and buy an ML shell to give a DS phat the unofficial "DS Lite" treatment, and that's the best we'll ever get I'm afraid.

The phat model had amazingly loud speakers tho.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.
