Hardware JoyCon drift

Today I was playing my Switch (launch model), when my left analog stick suddenly started to drift.

I bought it used (as new ones are patched), so no warranty. Sadly I'm in a country, where we don't even have a Nintendo site.

I will be updating this thread.

  • Sent an email to the official Nintendo distributor (20.1.2020 11:35 GMT+1)
Just replace the analog sticks.. It's too easy not to.

before new sticks, invest in wd40 contact cleaner

note that he sprays much more than should be necessary.
you'll do that every once in a while, but it's even less work than the joycon replacement (whcih is shown later in the video too)

Great stuff guys, thanks. I've been using contact cleaner for ages to get shoulder buttons working reliably again on GBA & DS consoles. I'm gonna have to try this out on my daughter's Switch which has bad drift on the L side. One thing I do really like about the Switch, though it isn't cheap, is that you ultimately can just replace the controllers when they're too far gone. I've advised my wife against the "Lite" for that reason, though I'm sure it can be opened up and repaired with a new part too. Just not as easily.
