I imported a game, but it won't let continue unless I use hirigana or katakana for a character name. Unfortunately, this game uses the 3ds' keyboard, which is in english for me. Is these any way to change the keyboard language with homebrew launcher, or a way to get around this, or am I just out of luck?

Which game is this? I own a JP console and haven't encountered a game that doesn't let me enter a name with latin characters.

hmm I have no idea how the console works to open a keyboard (I'm sure it have all languages available but not showing up :B)
maybe you can try to change region of a emunand, pass this part, then get the save back to your region to play game?
which game is this?

It's one of the Aikatsu games, and it seems REALLY determined that the name be in either hirigana or katakana. I've tried symbols, and unfortunately it doesn't accept it.

I've tried looking around and it seems someone else had your same issue (https://gbatemp.net/threads/3ds-savegame-requests-thread.359139/page-29) but nobody responded. Your only option seems to be finding someone with a copy of the game and getting a save file from them just after the part you're stuck at. I'd help but unfortunately it's over 5000 yen for a copy on the eShop despite its age :/

Longshot, but perhaps try tweeting @smealum and seeing if he has any ideas?

Heh, I'm not even sure how to do things with the save files (I guess I could learn though...) That person actually has a different version of Aikatsu, I have 365 idol days, but I guess it's a problem that'll affect any Aikatsu 3ds game where you make a character. Or really any game that uses the internal keyboard and requires kana characters for some incomprehensible reason.

It's pretty easy, you just need to install a save manager like svdt to your sdcard's /3ds folder (so it would end up in /3ds/svdt) and follow the guide on here to learn how to import and backup save games: https://github.com/meladroit/svdt . Of course you'd need to find someone else with a copy of the game who can provide you with a save to import, first, but perhaps svdt will be useful for you with other games as well.

I've played a lot of Japanese games and I'd never heard of a game that requires Kana input until Aikatsu. It's definitely in the minority and I'd be surprised if you found any other games like it. I wish I could be of more help and hope you find someone with a copy of the game who can share a save if @smealum doesn't have any ideas.

Here's a save file of just past the part you were stuck on. You'll need to use svdt to "launch" the game then copy 'gamecmn.bin' and 'game.bin' from your SD card to the game's save data.

If you have any more issues let me know and I'll see what I can do if no one else helps, but I may not respond back until much later.

EDIT: Ignore the other stuff, stupid OS X junk files. As for why the folder name is weird, SVDT / Homebrew has issues with non-latin characters.
