Japan Wii Sales Triple

Sales of the Nintendo Wii skyrocketed in Japan this week, nearly quadrupling its performance from the week prior, thanks to the release of a new, black version of the console and strong sales of Capcom’s Monster Hunter 3.

According to Japanese sales tracker Media Create, Wii sales jumped from about 24,000 units last week to over 95,000 this week, a boost surely helped by the introduction of a Monster Hunter 3 hardware bundle. That increase in Wii sales didn’t translate to much in the way of help to the competition, with sales on most of the other platforms mostly flat, fluctuating only slightly.

One platform that did drop was the Nintendo DSi, likely on the cooling of Dragon Quest IX sales. Somehow we don’t think Nintendo is losing much sleep over it.

It's funny how PS2 outsold the 360 too.

Though this isn't anything new. Everyone knows the Japanese love MH.... and Wii was already a good seller... Plus the black color is awesome.

Keep in mind this is a sales chart for JAPAN ONLY. That's why there's a monopoly over the native consoles rather than the Xbox360, which I'm sure not many care about over there.

There are better games for the Wii that are Japan only plus the epic apps which can ONLY be used in Japan. The 360 isn't popular in Japan with only 2 games that are even selling one being The Idolmaster which should have been on the PS3 instead or at least got a port of course it's better to play the arcade version and save the money.

The people behind Nintendo have really talented people in marketing. Releasing a black Wii with MH3 is like a huge plus for Japan.

They have been marketing the fuck out of Monster Hunter 3 and the Japanese love it, that alone could really convert over a lot of PSP-only Japanese. Ads are all over the trains where people normally play MH Portable.
