All games require a private header, if you use a public header you will eventually be banned.

Using CIA's however is safe

Excellent. I started playing Mario 3D Land but I can't extract my headers until my Powersaves arrives. I don't want to have to restart my game after applying a private header to it later on.

Even offline only games like Mario 3D Land?
If the game connects to the internet in any way, including SpotPass, it would be a good idea to use a private header. Even if it doesn't I'd use one to be safe. IIRC you can use the same private header on every game you use, as Nintendo doesn't check if the header matches the game yet. Just be sure that it's a private header that you dumped, or had someone dump for you.

You only need ONE private header. You can use the same header and inject it into each of your ROMs. The problem with public headers is that Ninty can see if two of the same header is being used at the same time which leads to bans. Since you can really only play one game at a time (unless you have multiple exploitable 3DS's) then you can use the same header in all of your ROMs.

And honestly, the only real problem I've read about public headers and bans is typically people playing Pokemon or hacking Pokemon online. I haven't really seen too many other cases, but that's not to say it won't happen for other games Like SSB or MH4U.

Hello,

i was also playing Super Mario 3D Land (with Sky3DS) by using a private Header from a Cartridge which i sold.

Later i've purchased my very own Cartridge for future Templates and made a backup of my Savegame of Super Mario 3D Land.

Then i've removed (via DiskWriter) and added the game with my new Template and restored the Savegame.

The savegame was still there and worked like before so it's worth a try to use the Game with a private Header anways.

Oh cool. I thought if you changed the header then you had to give up the save data and start fresh, I didn't realise that DiskWriter would let you do this.
