well, the r4 is going out because it doesnt have sdhc. its still updating its firmware but not alot of people like it anymore

I love the R4 but it's a dead cart now. The firmware releases are too infrequent for it to be an active company. You're right as well when you say that some games in the future may not be supported. Who knows, maybe the R4 team will surprise us all but I wouldn't get my hopes up.

They're not updating fw anymore. And the last fw they will release will be a bricking fw. Maybe your talking about the clones, which isnt updating since they use the same things as the last one but changed the name.

Actually, the lack of SDHC might be one reason they are stopping production, but most likely it's because of all the fakes and clones. Supposedly, there will be another firmware update in September to disable the clones and fakes.......we'll see.

I believe r4 is currently in litigation with nintendo and 54 other companies. So i think that is some of the reason why they haven't updated in awhile. According to kotaku, the sales of the r4 has gone up quite a bit since its been announced...

I think that lawsuit is actually Nintendo (w/53 other companies) against Japanese retailers that sell "R4-type" devices; ie: flashcarts in general. The lawsuit doesn't isolate R4 specifically. R4 is just mentioned a lot because it's the most popular flashcart.

It was great while it lasted, I still love my R4 card, even the spring still works with over a year of use. It was simple and did everything it has been asked to do. Go figure as I've been settling into the card as it stops FW updates (all they were doing was rom compatibility for some time anyways, never did get Wii connectivity). I just ordered a Edge card since it looks like a good yet simple card and even see some selling there Cyclo DS Evo's for them.

Atleast it has SDHC support, I'll move my 4GB micro SDHC from my PSP to the EDGE card (even though I use 2 2GB Kingston Micro SD's with my R4), and then look into a bigger MemoryStick Pro Duo for my PSP which even 16GB will be too small

Actually, the EDGE can be considered an evo lite, being of the same design, a similar interface and similar, but less, features.

For people who aren't into newer games, the R4 could be a backup cart now, maybe the price will drop and be able to pick one up for $20 soon (cause I need another cart-got rid of mine when I was strapped a while back).....

Nope, their old websites still work.. you just have to wait for it to redirect.
Maybe this is a good time for me to laugh at the people with only an R4..
Well maybe not... there are going to be some custom firmwares for the R4DS (Cant wait)
namely menuXDO and YSmenu

That's true. But by that time, probably a new handheld system will be out from Nintendo.
