I've had my Lite for quite a long time now. I bought it for Christmas 2006, so it's been more than a year of constant (ab)use. Last friday, before heading to my Spanish Language exam, I left it charging, as it had given me a red LED while playing. During this weekend, I've been playing Apollo Justice... for about 6 hours most, and I'm already needing to give my DSL a full charge again. Does this mean I should buy another one? Truth be told, I've never noticed a reduction on the battery life, but now that I think about it, it does seem it's been noticeably cut down.
So, should I get a new battery? I'll get it tomorrow. I don't need one of those "extended" 1200mAh batteries, so an official 1000mAh will do the trick, at least for one more year

I don't think it's a bad idea to get an extra battery. Afterall, who knows when it'll die all of a sudden. I'd get the 1000mAh ones, because the extended ones are usually fake, and doesn't last as long, unless it's really made by Nintendo.

Also, you're seem to last longer than mine. I've used mine for less than a year, and it lasts only about 4-7 hours. Strange, because I always play with the lowest settings, and with no sound....

On an unrelated note, I charged my DS about 45 times since I got it.... Yes, I counted...

A 6 hour charge is awesome, I have had my DS Phat since launch or so and I only get 4 hour charge at most.

Well, then I won't get a new battery yet. Yes, it seems contradictory but... compared to my sister's Phat, it has more than 2 hours worth of charge. And, well, in case it dies on me out of the blue, I'll try to live without it for some days. You see, I hit the stores today but those lovely official batteries were nowhere to be found... I guess I'll be buying one online, but that's a real hassle, because I must order it from a foreign retailer, pay via PayPal/bank transfer, wait more than a week... Too much for a battery I don't really need right now. If you tell me my current battery is doing well, then I see no need for a new one ATM.

Thanks for the tips, guys, specially that one on those "extended" batteries. But, now that you mention it, are there any trustful 1200mAh batteries out there, or are all of them scams?

5 hours is still miles better than psp's awfle 3 and 1/2 hour charges.

i recently traded my phat for a lite and i was getting only 4. now i get 5-7.
