is it suppose to take so long to create a partition on a usb

harddrive? i created a partition on my 1TB harddrive and it's been going for over 8hours now and it's only 27% done. Does it usually takes this long to do this?

No, even for a 1TB Hard Drive, it shouldn't take more than 3 hours (at the most). I'd suggest trying again, or run a S.M.A.R.T. test to see if you hard drive is degrading or not.
