Is it safe to downgrade N3DS's now?

    I have a N3DS with ironhax/tubehax installed on it, on ver 10.0.0-27U

I'm currently using a 3DSXL with RXtools right now but it seems a shame to let my N3DS collect dust.
How safe/easy is the downgrade process now? Also from what I understand N3DS emunand cannot be updated past 9.5?

And finally, if I did brick the system (not that i think that will be likely), would Nintendo repair it? (it's still under warranty and i just so happen to live fairly close to one of their repair centers)

I'd love to breathe some new life into this system.

It's safe to downgrade n3ds, I believe users just fucked something up while downgrading, hence, hard/soft bricks occurs. I just recently downgraded my JAP N3ds which has 10.3 firmware with success, though I format it and the sd before doing so. I used the safesysupdater which really helps a lot.

As for emunand, Cakes and Reinand supports the latest firmware which is 10.5.

You can't really have hard bricks now AFAIK(just dont do anything stupid and stick to the guide and read the Dos and Dont's to avoid hardbricks), softbricks, possible, but you can recover it by going to recovery mode. But doing so will update your sysnand to 10.5, making your n3ds undowngradable using the memchunkhax2 method. You can downgrade on 10.5 if you have hard mod though.

Nowaways, you can have an emunand up to 10.5 on n3ds with the latest versions of reinand and just in case, I've heard of people getting their system repared by nintendo after a hardbrick.

Also, there are less softbricks/hardbricks since safesysupdater/sysupdater (safe version by julian) came out.

I don't know if they are only rumors but there are some tips to rise the success rate, as copy -> format sd -> paste back or removing the system update nag from the system entering/exiting on system recovery mode

It's fine assuming you use the right downgrade pack. Most bricks are from people messing up on their end. I bricked my first N3DS xl by using the O3DS downgrade pack, but my second one worked like a charm w/ the N3DS downgrade pack

People are going to brick out of their own stupidity no matter what you do. Go on the iso site and make sure you have the 9.2 N3ds downgrade pack and you will be good 2 go

I was slightly worried about the risk of bricking warnings for the N3DS but I decided to give it a shot with mine and successfully downgraded from 10.3 to 9.2 on the first attempt - the only problem I had was that it took me about 10 attempts to get into sysupdater because it wouldn't load completely at first, but that was just a case of rebooting and retrying until it loaded properly, then the downgrade worked on the first attempt. Not sure if it's essential but I kept seeing recommendations to do a system format and format the SD card before starting so I did that. Now I just need to figure out where to go from here...

    You have to :

1 - Boot Emunand9 => create a proper 9.2 Emunand on your SD card (it will format your SD card)
2 - Replace files to boot Homebrew Launcher (starter pack), & reinstall Homemenuhax
3 - Once done, use last Reinand files to boot your Emunand in Rei Mode (nice with N3DS)
4 - Update your Emunand with Nintendo normal update system (go system preferences, verifiy REI 9.2.X is showing on the menu, and go to update menu)
5 - Install a CIA file manager with App Health & Safety replacement method (find tuto)

You're done, you can finally boot in REI 10.5.x mode (shown on system pref menu) and install cia's files with replaced app heatlh & safety - warning, if you quit the system pref menu, the 3ds will reboot (and go in normal sysnand mode if no automatic boot was set with menuhax)

Does tubehax/ironhax work as an entrypoint for downgrading? It seemed like people were saying you had to use browserhax or cubic ninja.

EDIT: oh never mind, it seems that browserhax works on 10.0.0.27U?

Also, is a system format required beforehand, seeing as I have about 5 years worth of streetpasses, game saves and other stuff that i'd really prefer to carry over to my emunand if at all possible... I haven't seen any way that I know of to back up/restore streetpass plaza data.

Tubehax is dead, you cannot use it anymore.
It is very probable that you could not use browserhax either, but with ironhax you're good to go.
You can clone your sysnand to your emunand, so you should not loss any streetpass, etc. If you want to be sure of not lossing any saves, you could dump them with svdt and similar.

Be sure of making backups of sysnand and sd card, because if you want unlinked nands, format emunand or sysnand is mandatory

Unless you have many eshop games, or you realy don't want to lose your streetpass plaza save, do a systemformat before downgrading, this will prevent some unknown problems that could apear while downgrading your 3DS, that could lead to a softbrick. If you have some eshop games, simply backup the saves before doing a system format. This way you will be as save as possible, if you are not doing something wrong, like using the wrong update pack.

From what I'm seeing: " You brick, you're stupid. "
2DS freezes mid process, I'm stupid. It's my fault. Shouldn't have let it freeze. Best excuse to call names 2016.

Coming from someone that just bought a N3DS XL, nearly bricked it once, then actually did the second time forcing a 10.5 update, following all the guides 100% correctly, no. No it isn't.

That looks like the wrong downgrade_checker. You should be using the one that displays the titles of the applications, makes it easier to tell.
