I have an R4. I was just curious as to everyone's opinion on the DS browser. I am out of the house a lot and do not have a laptop, and there are two locations I spend time in where I could use the wifi to access the internet with it, but $30 is an awful lot... do you guys think the memory expansion will become very useful in Homebrew (such as QuakeDS) and do you think that possibility justifies the $30 price tag?

Just buy the ez expansion pack. Then you can play gba games plus use the browser.

its only 20 dollars shipped so its really cheap and it rumbles, and you can play gba games on it as well as use the nintendo ds browser so its a great deal.

can the ds browser be usable on the r4
not alone, the r4 has no ram it cant handle the browser, you will need to buy a real ram expansion pack sold at nintendo.com, or a M3,Supercard,G6, or Ez flash iv/v 3in1 slot 2 flash cart, the cheapest is like mentioned above the ez flash v 3 in1, which is sold for only 20 dollars and it has built in memory to hold 1 gba game, it rumbles and is browser ram.

Frankly, the DS Browser is not worth it, whether you pirate the ROM or buy it. Its portable but slow. If you don't travel much and already got a laptop, chances are you don't need it.

I think the browser is pretty damn fast especially considering its on a portable device with not alot of specs. Compared to like a blackberry or other phone/pda's its pretty darn quick. It's never going to be capable of lightning fast speeds, not without some serious loss of quality or making it text only for example.

The most useful use of the DS browser for me is logging into my universities wireless network. It doesn't have a WEP key but requires you to authenticate by just forwarding you to the log in page no matter what site you try to visit.
The browser can't seem to handle the forwarding... normally if you type in google.com or something, the university network will show you the login instead, that seems to confuse the DS but I can get it to work by manually going to the login page =) (only to usually realise I've connected to the JANET roaming system rather than the one for the university members!).
Once I've logged in like that, I can use any of the wifi games because the network auth's the mac address for a small period of time!

DS browser is good for checking email and news.

I bought it cause it was kinda neat. Never use it. Have the 3-1 and the R4 and never use the browser.

On a related note, is the rumble and expansion pack feature of the EZ 3-1 supose to work with the R4, cause mine doesn't?

Also, the fact that you consider $30 a lot of money kind of makes me sick.

are you using the latest software from rudolph? rumble works fine with mine. I load the software, set the level of vibrate, then the r4 resets and load the game you want. it should be enabled

I think its worth carrying more gba games, rather than a web browser that is slower that your notebook. Chances are there are going to be very few moments when you will think to access on the internet on your NDS.

For students who only work part-time and have to pay for their own rent, food, school fees $30 is a lot.

I wouldn't spend $30 on nothing, but by the same token a $30 suprise bill isnt going to bankrupt me for the month.
I didn't say it was nothing, but lets get serious. Going out for dinner and a few drinks should cost you $30. If you consider that a lot of money its really sad.

And not even a lot, but an awful lot. Lets get serious - buying the DS Browser is not like buying a house or a car.

In conclusion, enough with the jokes - lets get serious.

You guys arn't serious are you?
