According to recent rumours on the internet, it's likely that a Metal Gear Solid 4 port will come to the Switch in the next year or two. An overclocked Switch should be capable of running the game at 60fps in handheld mode. Does the game have physics tied to framerate or anything else which makes a 60fps patch too much effort to bother with?

a 60 fps patch on ps3 hardware is not possible.

if they could've ran the game at 60 they would've. from what I understand the devs squeezed out every bit of the hardware they could.

if you wanna play at 60 your best bet is a pc with rpcs3.

and about the switch port I doubt they would port the game since for one mgs4 was made specifically for the ps3s cell architecture and porting it would be a nightmare. best bet is they remake the game from the ground up and charge us 70 bones for it with no switch version.

"Metal Gear Solid 4 was 'running beautifully' on Xbox 360"

It finally came out exclusively for PS3, but if it was running on 360 I doubt it's such an "exotic" ps3 version as they wanted to sell us. So yes, I see it very likely that we'll see it on Switch in the next compilation.

"That's a nice rumor you have there @ragnarok_approaches123, why don't you back it up with a source?"
Nevermind found it myself:

the game itself already targets 60fps at the best case scenario. sadly the double buffered v-sync drags the game down to 30, or from 30 to 20 and from 20 to 15. it was a terible set up if you ask me.

MGS4's framerate was all over the place, but it was surreal when the game hit 60fps. I recall MGS3 doing the same in very select parts, but that game had a more consistent framerate.

Anything is possible with enough money involved. Kingdom Hearts went from the PS2 to the PS3 to everywhere else, so it survived two bouts of "nightmare architecture."

I'd wager a remake would make more sense. They could recycle the voice acting and music, which I believe Konami's doing for MGS3 Delta, and MGS4 only has ~5 hours of gameplay to remake.

MGS4 on the 360? Whoa, that's news to me. They should have made it multiplatform than keep it a PS exclusive.

And who knows if the 2nd volume of MGS collection for PS5/Xbox will feature MGS4... Maybe not due to the complexities of the PS3.

After the success of the PS2, I'm sure making MGS4 a Sony exclusive seemed like a reasonable decision. I'd be curious to know how far the 360 version got into development, since the PS3 version was made to take full advantage of the Cell architecture. Not to mention that Blu Ray conversation in the Outer Heaven section.

The game's starting to come back to me. Colonel Campbell had all the "hip and current" dialog, didn't he? I remember him using "FOR THE WIN" and "MEME," and those were just starting to show up everywhere back in the late 2000's. That was also the time everyone needed to be "FIRST" in comment sections.

THe X360 port was cancelled as it Microsoft tried to make HDDVD sound amazing and make the game exclusive to it as it had no chance to fit 4 dual layers, it was determined the HDDVD wasn't enough to fit in the game and was a dying platform and had to either cut content or remove the fmvs but since the game is built all around it, it was cancelled.

I would like Konami try, considering they struggled to hit stable 60 fps on MGS1, 2 & 3 on switch. Also did you forget the game has tons of FMVs, bluray quality, so it will be a downloadable and 60fps on switch is a pipe dream as it uses complex systems and physics is not tied to fps but processing hence random slow downs and with the slow downs physics isn't affected.

Some game ties physics to fps as it easier to control the load on cpu, MGS4 was built on an early PS3 SDK which had superior hardware than the retail PS3 and had to cut content and adjust the game and most likely to avoid delays making it work they made physics not tied to fps and considering the complex systems in place it would be difficult to have it have it tied to fps.

Is that true? I know MGS4 is more cinematics than game, but I wonder what would have happened if the SDK had better represented the hardware. Would the cut content have made for a more well-rounded game? It's hard to say.
