the feature you can get when you jailbreak the iphone / itouch that I want the most is:

The "swipe the finger at the top of the screen to get a short cut list with wifi switch, brightness slide and the ability to turn rotation on and off"-app....

the rotation thingy is really neat for users like me who use the ipod in bed and likes browsing music... turning it on the side to get the album slide thingy isn't really that much fun every time...

This'll just be some iPad bull crap. I can see the feature list now:
  • New app store app just for iPad apps
  • 3G optimized to allow 1 more MB download limit
  • Made app store faster
  • Multi tasking and theme support...NOT. Haha, you got trolled

Only Apple could make an "event" out of a software update on a phone

I assume these updates are paid? Otherwise I just can't see why Apple would be making a big deal out of it.
Updates don't require money. That would be pretty low of Apple to do that.

Also, I'm hoping for a new look, even after having my iPod Touch for about 2 weeks (I think it's been that long..) I've already got bored of the look.
Maybe some new apps from Apple?
Update do require money. It was $10 dollars to update from 2.2.1 to 3.1. Not I think its $5 dollars. There is always a way to do it for free though.
Mine was free, seems like you got screwed.
