I bet it won't be long til we see a Chinese factory knocking out Wii styled HDD cases.

I'll be keeping my eye on Dealextreme!

It's fine, haha. I didn't even bother to look, I just chose a few random drives.

I'm a console modder, so the size does matter to me. Today I opened my wii to begin a new mod, sticking an internal hard drive in..But it doesnt work because Waninkoko's USB-Loader won't run if your DVD drive is disconnected

So i'm just waiting for additional support I guess.
Try it with just the drive-board.

Great topic, I too am on the search for a good external HDD for my Wii, and I am also pretty convinced it's gonna be this one

Glad to hear I'm making the best choice.

And don't the Wii games get smaller by adding them to your WBFS partition? Like SSBB is around 2,9GB.
That way it's even better, you can get more games on it!

I'm thinking about buying a 500GB HDD, for my PC ISO's and my Wii ISO's.

Anyone here with a Toshiba HDD and experience with use with the loader?
I saw an external 1TB Toshiba HDD in a store, it looked nice.

Hm...
That stinks =/
Hehe, maybe you can tell him about your problem and he can make a special loader for you =)
Personally, I don't think he'd come across the need to add support for that reason.
It seems a bit specific. It's mostly meant for ripping and playing, so I can't see why he'd make DVD Drive disconnection support without an incentive.
An internal hard drive sounds awesome.
That'd kick ass more than starlight xD.

I'm really hoping that Waninkoko does/can modify the code to take into consideration people out there with a faulty drive etc.

To people that are in the position of replacing a drive or buying a HDD it would be priceless to them (if your reading this Waninkoko mate consider it please).

I bought a SATA to USB2.0 Enclosure for $10AUD and 750GB SATA Hard Drive for $120AUD.
What enclosure is that?
I'm looking to do the same and would love to have a good idea of what to buy compatibility wise.
Store link would be great but just a product and model name would be most appreciated.

all Storage Devices I've tested so far were compatible with USB_Loader once format it with Fat32 and initialized with WBFS from Gibbed , the loader will list the games and load it with no problem , Starting from 2GB $ony Stick and just finished testing Seagate 1TB with no problems at all , most common Error you might run into will be [ ret= -1 ] and this can be solved by shutting down the Console and unplug the Storage Device from the Console and the Power Cord if applicable then reconnect again and fire the console up and the Error will be gone

Enjoy

Thanks a lot, that should help a lot of people.

What's the maximum hard drive size that it'll take?

From what I've heard, 500GB.
You can use a 1TB HDD, but you have to partition it.
I'm not sure how accessing partitions works, as I've mostly been practicing for a Brawl tournament for the best few weeks.

seagate freeagent Desktop is what i use, 250gigs 4 games 250gigs 4 avi's

works awesome and only ran me 120CDN so like 76 USD

I saw these in Curcuit City (before they went bankrupt) and they had the same 250 GB HDDs in like red, black, blue and green and for $50. I should've got it when it was like half off!

Yeah, except the liquidation firm that handled CC's closing would have marked them up to full MSRP before applying the discount, and they never would have saved your more than five bucks or so.

Cheapest way would be to get an enclosure thats IDE to usb THEN get a cheap ide drive, (ide is cheaper then sata around my place)
