Looking at the title choices for the competition there's no mention of MGS, Silent Hill or Castlevania, it looks like this Competition is targeting their more obscure back catalogue of games, which isn't a bad thing. :)

Interesting, not often devs get asked to make sanctioned fangames by the IP holder. That's basically what this is gonna be.
I love all of Konami's shmups and I will never say no to more shmups, Mystical NInja Starring Goemon was great on the N64 so it'll be interesting to see what they can do with that franchise, and there are a lot of other games on that list I've never even heard of but that makes it more interesting. Most of them appear to be shmups though :P

this is what ALL game companies should do instead of filing DMCA takedowns
Lazily exploiting indie devs (maybe they get "exposure"), presumably going on to sell the results in a pack or trying some kind of "gib money to the one you like the most" thing so they can have that "these people actually put money where their mouth is" metric (see also most corporate crowdfunding efforts) rather than forming an exploratory group pulled from their own developers and funding some jam sessions with them?

Mostly shooters on here... Would love to see a Ganbare Goemon game though, with modern mechanics/rpg elements etc.

There was a DS version

It suffers a bit from early DS game syndrome with forced touchscreen nonsense but in other regards is a back to basics game for the series after going a bit off the rails in later entries.
Never got an official release outside Japan and fan efforts at translations seem to have stalled out but something to note.

Never heard of it.. What's with that framerate or is it because it is emulated? It probably tanked on JP that's why it was never brought to the west. I could try it if it wasn't a Japanese-heavy game, and the touch-screen nonsense like you said of course.

Possibly emulation related but did not look like it. More just how a lot of 3d games on the DS went; 3d was a bit of an afterthought there and even at the end when people could make the hardware sing it was arguably still better left to side on 2d and backgrounds.

I rather enjoy a life of taking it easy. I haven't reached that life yet though.
