So long story short I was inactive for almost half a year when it comes to 3DS hacking and so on, before that I knew a lot of stuff about Menuhax, Homebrew and just in general about Homebrew/EmuNAND/exploits/etc. for my N3DS.

The last time I touched it I installed ReiNAND and booted it via Menuhax autoboot, EmuNAND firmware is 11.0.0-33E. SysNAND is, I believe, 9.2.0-20E.
Now, did anything change? What's the "go-to" method these days to get EmuNAND up and running? What's the latest Firmware for EmuNAND? Can I use my old ReiNAND setup on the new method still?

    Thanks for answers already!

Luma3DS is basically the drop-in replacement for both rxTools and reiNAND.

-With a9lh You can ditch the emunand and run off sysnand now, or flash the emunand to your sysnand and run that, or just continue using your current emunand setup.

-use luma3DS if you don't want to do anything beyond replacing a few files on your sd card.

-If you want future-proof and essentially custom firmware nintendo can't mess with or detect, go with the plailect.github.io/Guide thingi

The only reason I've digged out my trusty good New 3DS is because of the Animal Crossing update to check it out haha :D

Anyways, thanks everyone for suggesting! I'll give plailect a try :)

Yeah, as long as you've got a sense of competence installing A9LH is quite easy these days.

with a new3ds the sense of competence needed is pretty much only to not start throwing the 3ds at the wall for no reason

I've done far worse stuff to my 3DS's back then including almost bricking them but luckily recovering :D That tho only because I was messing and testing around, not because I can't follow instructions :)

Okay thanks guys, everything worked fine!

So, after setting up everything, can I simply use the 3DS System Update function to update to the latest version without breaking something?

After installing a9lh it will always be safe to update sysnand. (just check here first)

It won't break your a9lh, but it might break your CFW, requiring you to update it as well.
