I'm thinking of getting an iPhone

I'm thinking of getting an iPhone..
It(the 16GB that i'm interested at) costs 299$ from Apple's store and it's free shipping.

I read a lot about it , saw I can jail break it to have lots of lots of apps and all that.

Anyway , The reasons to get an iPhone are pretty simple -

1) I need more space to get my music on.
2) I won't go around with both a phone and an iPod , if I get something it's an iPhone.
3) I need a camera and I got one on my phone so I need that one.
4) the features and apps and everything seem so slick and usefull

Reasons to not get -
1) It's pretty damn expensive , ill have to sell my current phone and work to get more money.
2) There are probably a heck load of apps and stuff I wouldn't need.
3) I could accidently break it more easily then my current phone..

PLEASE DO tell if I should or shouldn't get myself one of these.

I think he meant get an old one because newer models cannot be jailbroken but I think they can.

They can be jailbroken.. I did a small research - 3Gs Modules can be jailbroken.

Well I've 'had-a-play' with an iPhone recently & although it's slim, has larger screen than some phones etc - I didn't really like it - Why? ... I just couldn't really put my finger on it. Maybe I thought it was TOO large a screen/phone, perhaps it didn't fit my hand right, or perhaps it felt to light & flimsy.. I just really don't know, but anyway back to the point......

Taking your points as a guide:
All I can say is that there are other phones out there that have large (touch) screens, some allow memory 'upgrades' because they use memory cards (although 16Gb SHOULD be more than enough memory - check to see what the mmax memory card it can take), & also have a selection of 'apps' that can be installed - many phones now also have cameras built in too

I would suggest trying out a few first - go to your local phone shop/market stall & ask to 'try them out' - See if there's any Youtube videos so you can see the phone in action if you can't.
Read a LOT of reviews & also the phone manual etc to get an idea on how it operates.

Find out what 'apps' ARE avaliable & the cost of them, although some may be FREE on the site - you may still need to download them straight to phone (Nokia OVI is one site that will NOT allow you to download apps to your PC for backup the transfer to phone), & if you're on PAYG that can work out expensive.

I would also suggest popping along to phone forums - see what (if any) problems exist with the phone. consider if the 'problems' are minor annoyances or major faults with the phone - sometimes phones are 'rushed out' and can end up with major fault built into them (the iPhone is a classic example - earlier phones had a battery/overheat problem when making calls)

Well you can download it directly from Apple for free if you know how so it's questionable, besides who cares.

the updates are free for the iphone, 9.99 for touches. though like someone said, its not exactly hard to get your hands on said firmware.

I am glad that it is free for the iPhone and charge for iPOD.. I dont think update is necessarily since jailbreaker available for 3.1.2 or 3.1.3. I dont have 3gs but I am going to get iPhone 4g this summer.

Rumors are mostly true. Atleast when it comes to internet thing.
It happend with MW 2 , It happend with DSiXL thing , Happend with many crap.

And if it's not confirmed doesn't really change the fact that im getting an iPhone in the summer .
Oh and by the way , the iPhone will probably keep on going up untill version 5 or so.
