For a while now my disc drive hasn't been able to read Wii games properly but has been able to read burnt gamecube games just fine. Now whenever I play a burnt gamecube, for instance Wind Waker, I get disc read errors almost constantly making the games unplayable. This leads me to believe that my disc drive after a few years of dvd-r abuse has finally given out on me. Can anyone confirm that this is the case? and give me details on a replacement? prices, gamecube backup playability on a new drive, etc.

Thanks in advance.

Yeah that sounds like your drive is dying... It's not very cheap to get a replacement because the chips changed so newer drives cant read backups anymore... Just play wii games via usb, clean your driver lens and only play gamecube discs, no wii discs anymore. Look into a WODE too and follow the developement of DML (wii hacking thread).
