So I got this female connector
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00EZ6HZLW?redirect=true&ref_=ya_st_dp_summary

I also just read this -

Q: What is the pin out configuration?. normally usb only has 4 pins, what is the 5th pin for?

A: No, there are 5 for micro usbs (the end you connect to your cell,mp3 player or mini cam). standard USB's (the ones you connect to your PC) use 4.

So did I get the wrong pins? How do I configure I five pin layout? I have a N3DS XL USA I have been reading this thread

Did I just buy the wrong thing?

If you use that instead of any other usb device you should be fine, you can look at the pinout for micro usb and probably figure it out from there

For the price of just that part and shipping, you can have a full mod installed domestically. They even include the adapter.

How I did it back in the day was soldered the USB adapter in, spliced the USB cable plugged it in, and tested for continuity on the cable. Since I could test the wire to the test point on the 3DS, I was able to tell which wire to solder to which pin on the SD.

I honestly have no idea what you said xD I am a noob at soldering. (been practicing for about a week though) However, my 3DS is already bricked (black screen of death). I have nothing to loose. I am doing this to try to fix it by manually installing native_firm.

Get a multi meter. You can test what wire goes to which point with it. Then solder the wires accordingly to the SD adapter. You can bypass the port all together and solder the SD to the mobo with wires. When restored, you can remove them.
Again, I offer services. My unbrick service is $32 shipped. A full mod is $47 or $57 depending on O3Ds or N3DS. It includes the needed SD adapter too.

I would go to you but I want to try on my own. It's not as fun having someone else do it! I am just concerned about the female connector as I did not know it was 5 Pin out.

One of them is for sense for OTG cables. You can look up USB pinouts. The sence one it the one you would ignore.
