I followed the guide and have luma and a9lh. How do I use my red card gateway?

I understand some feel it is redundant to have this card. But as of now there are two things im concerned with.

Moving to an all .cia setup is a hassle. Save conversion but also needing to redownload or convert games. On top of that installation times. I can't have all my games at once so transferring games in and out with a computer sounds more quick than deleting and installing. Unless the speeds are faster now or I get a larger microsd(which abandoning the red card and selling could help towards)...I'm inclined to stick with it.

Another one would be cheats. I really want this and right now I see a lot of support and ease of use for G3DS. How do I utilize cheats on CFW?

remedying both of these will have me seriously consider dropping the card. Otherwise....how do I get it to work on cfw?

    Between insane and insecure
To use cheats, you just need to download and install NTR
    https://github.com/astronautlevel2/BootNTR/releases
    http://ntrplugins.shoutwiki.com/wiki/Plugins

I really suggest first moving your old emuNAND to your sysNAND using hourglass9 and backing up your entire SD card. Then reformatting your SD card using emunand9 (using the option to reformat without the emunand.) Ditching the old emuNAND really frees up a lot of space. If you still don't have enough space, buy a bigger SD card. SD cards are seriously cheap nowadays.

I followed that 3ds guide site and did take the detour steps to delete the old emunand.

I'm going forward with saying bye bye to the red card.

I am trying to install NTRcfw and then will try to use the cheat plugin followed by converting the gateway saves. I'm not sure if I should try to convert .3ds to .cia or if I should just download.

The Gateway card wouldn't have been THAT bad. From what I've heard the cheat system in Gateway is supposed to be better than NTR? Other than that I agree with what has been said and with you getting rid of it. 64GB SD card's aren't THAT expensive (considering the amount of money you save by *cough* acquiring your games through questionable means).

Only thing I'd be worried with Gateway is accidentally doing something stupid like updating which would brick the console afaik. Unless you used emuNAND .. but then the space issue would be prevalent again ..

Damn, I was really hoping it was some guy who went out and a bought a Gateway before researching the scene.

from what im seeing im not sure what the gateway cheats has over ntr. Only thing seems to be making the plugins rather than a database of text files easily copied over. Another thing is apparently I can convert the gateshark text files into a ntr plugin. If the cheat capabilities are the same and the ability to use whatever gateshark has also exists, it doesn't seem significantly better.

Still need to figure the saves thing. It's a lot of work but would overall be better(I remember hacks on other systems like psp or wii, good times).

And yea, to that one poster, I didn't buy the gateway recently. I had it from when it was the one of the only ways before CFW. I watched the scene develop but never felt the need to go for CFW till now.

The gw cheat system has a better code base and the cheat engine more robust. Not to mention the built in cheat search for it. GW is great for cheats. Though if using GW for cheats you should setup an emunand again before ever using the redcard as GW on sysnand a9lh has no firm protection resulting in a brick/loss of a9lh depending on your model 3ds if updated in gateway mode.

There are other advantages. You don't need to boot NTR (which can crash and need a reboot), you just have to enable a key combo in the OSD menu (which isn't faster than booting NTR though, but at least you can choose what key combo you want). Then the game boots as fast as it is supposed to instead of taking one minute to load the plugin. Then you can exit the game and load another one without NTR preventing you from booting that second game. And to get a new cheat, all you have to do is put it on the Red Cart's SD, which is less annoying to get access to on a New 3DS.

Yeah, details everywhere, no real big deal, but still, NTR is annoying to use compared to Gateway's cheat engine.

Some codes become Gateway exclusive due to the limitations of NTR, these are being worked on, but who knows when the problem will be fixed, and I mean there's no reason to use NTR when you have Gateway anyways. Not to mention extended memory games as well, those don't work with NTR on O3DS.

I'm not gonna try and stop you from getting rid of your Gateway, but hey, them's the facts.

It really does seem to boil down to the cheat implementation. I'm just a user of cheats rather than creating and searching for them, I just want stuff that minimizes grinding and all that(I have zero interest in online cheating or stuff gamebreaking like some moon jump).

I mainly intended to do this not for myself but for a friend and I planned on sticking to my gateway....but now the CFW bug has me and im just exploring all the things I missed out on. I just took my 32GB and put it in the SD, I can't juggle both .3ds on red card and .cia on 3DS SD, too disorganized.

I can actually turn off my 3DS now lmao and go portable without concerns of battery running out.

That said I still need to get my saves over and try some cheat plugins and see if they work with the kinds of codes I'd be interested in using.

For ease of use GW is recomended. Ntr is a royal pain in the ass.

How is it a pain in the ass if you only have to download plugins, put them on your SD Card and boot up NTR CFW?

I see you did not read my post. There are already problems just in your sentence.
    1. "put them on your SD Card"
yeah, the one in the 3DS not the one in the red cart, which means it is behind two screws on a New 3DS, unlike the one on the red cart
    2. "boot up NTR CFW"
which sometimes fail, unlike GW's OSD (which we still have to visit but with no failure)
And then the other stuff in my post, plus extended memory games which I forgot about but they are mentioned by other people.

Really, I would never advise a Gateway to someone who does not use cheats everyday but when it comes to GW vs NTR in terms of cheats, NTR isn't the obvious winner. I'd like to (so I'd be able to take cheat in games that use Luma's language emulation instead of having to choose between GW cheats without language emulation or NTR cheats on Luma) but really, no. If you did not try a Gateway, you don't know what you're talking about.

And yeah, there are a lot of reasons to be against Gateway (brick code, always late, renaming a9lh, etc) but here the debate is NTR cheats vs Gateway cheats.

Ever wanted to disable/modify a code on the fly? Well good luck. Doing so with NTR (unless things changed recently) don't you need to do so from a remote source? Unless they too now have an on screen solution I'm assuming yes

NTR has a menu when you press x+y or x+b iirc, to disable and edit codes.
But yeah, gateway seems to be better for cheating :P
