I ordered some screen protectors. I hope I can clean out any dust in the scratches and what not on my 3DS XL screen. I'm glad it's not visible unless you're looking for it, so this should prevent any further damage.

I'm very protective of my 3DS XL. When I'm not using it, I use a red pouch from Club Nintendo to keep it in, and there have been no surface scratches on it with regular use from me.

I've got a cosmo black regular 3DS since launch and still don't have any 'scratches.' I get the straight lines on the top screen, corresponding to the edges of the bottom screen, when I don't clean it for a while, but it's just finger grease. Cleans right up, without a trace, every time.

This is exactly what mine had before I traded it fora blue 3DSXL. And that XL has no scratches. Maybe people are just mishandling these things?

If by mishandling things, you mean using a portable gaming device by taking it out and about and playing it, then sure, I've been horribly mishandling my 3DS XL by playing it and keeping it in my pocket when out and about...

In any case, got the screen protectors. I have to say, these are the best screen protectors I've ever used. Didn't get the bottom screen protector as perfect as I did the top screen (one dust particle on the bottom screen, the top screen perfect), but wow... I've never got screen protectors on as well as these ones went on...

Anyway, hope to prevent more permanent damage to the top screen. I REALLY don't want to send my 3DS in for repair... again. Haven't been having the best of luck when it comes to hardware defects in my 3DS... This one is as perfect as I'm going to get I suppose.

Apart from screen protector, i guess a case for extra protection is good too, well at least for me

You could, along with the screen protectors, put a little piece of micro fiber cloth between the screens... It will stop smudge marks on the protectors as well. (I have had protectors on, and got the original 3ds very early. and I have no scratches on the protectors, but they do get greasy smudge marks when being closed... easy to wipe off sure, but a piece of cloth prevents it, AND can be handy to keep the screens crisp for that extra nice feeling when playing ;) )
