I'm a little concerned. A friend of mine's Wii U console with the tubehax DNS configured just updated from 5.5.0 to 5.5.1 on its own. Even after the update, his DNS settings on his only set connection read 107.211.140.065. Why did his console just slip by and update?
It depends on router config.
Is his Wii U connected like this: Modem -> Router -> Wii U ?

I think the router would resolve the hostname independent of what configuration is used in the devices you connect to it.

I have no idea what that means. But anyway, I had several games I purchased and was stuck on 5.5 so to get access to eshop I updated to get my kids Nintendo land. Damn....
Oh that's why you updated? Let's hope there's some kind of exploit for 5.5.1, because right now there's not much we can do about that firmware honestly.

on the other hand
kexploits would be useless when IOUS exploit is releassed
Not necessarily, IOSU could be patched on higher firmware, but we can still have one of these kernel exploits as a backup. The guys in wii u cracking don't hold on to this stuff to be assholes like the 3ds guys do, they actually release their shit when it's the right time.

Yea I updated for a legitimate reason :) Well here's to hoping! Thanks for considering it @Marionumber1
I'm sure in the future we might do something about 5.5.1, seeing how much devs are in the homebrew+kernel scene, also 5.5.1 doesn't differ too much from 5.5.0, so maybe after some exploits get released there might be a ton of possibilities for exploits in future versions.

Basically, Marionumber1 announced that he's planning on releasing his iOSU exploit, but apart from that. Absolutely nothing happened.
When and where did he say that? I haven't been on all day and really don't want to sift through garbage just to find it.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Besides a few more tests from Onion_Knight for Loadiine v3, no.
How is that going?

Yes, and depending on my decision, it could be released before too long.

We got close AFAIK. His test before last put Mii Maker in an infinite loading loop, but then his next test froze it at the install menu again.

So from what I am able to decipher, nothing new happened today?
Well, MN1 aparently will try to continue with the current work of the IOSU Exploit because we don't have any sign of Hykem since his last time online 14 days ago.
There is a lot of progress on Homebrew for 5.4.0, Onion_Knight is porting Loadiine right now and he will continue tomorrow aparently.
MN1 also said that currently there is a 2nd Kernel Exploit for 5.5.0 And probably also 5.5.1, but he didn't said anything about 5.5.1, but if the Exploit was only working on 5.5 he would just release it already because it was patched, and he is currently still deliberating if release one of the Exploits of not.

So yea, today was a pretty productive day with news and ports, more than the typical day here.

Edit: Also, josamilu made a great guide of how to Compile Payloads for 5.5.0 and 5.5.1 and run them, I forgot about that for a moment.

Well that is good to hear. Maybe the storm will calm down afterwards to where the forum returns to a semi normal state.

He's not active on github either.
You don't really know.
Afaik you can contribute secret/nonpublic things to github with a false date.
The rasplex dev crew contributed their stuff a long time backdated to 13 Apr 2014 - so nobody knew what was going on.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

I been following these threads since 2 weeks before xmas and i must say geez talk about rehashing and rethreading ..i know how excited the kids are but..wow...nonsensical..... also. the guys witholding the exploit from the kids are assholes looking for attention...from the media...nothing more ...think about this.. these wannabe hackers using a url to display a picture on said wii u and controller with a line of random digits ....that is all you have seen...nothing else.. these "hackers" are full of excrement

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".

It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

    It's not a Nintendo / iQue official product, it's a 3rd party custom.

Nothing special about it other than it's more comfortable than the Lite

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.
  • AncientBoi @ AncientBoi:
    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

  • cearp @ cearp:
@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
