I cant remember how i heard about GBAtemp, i think about 10 years ago i was reading up on DS hacking and flashcarts then i decided to join. After that i learnt how to hack and softmod my wii and psp consoles.

I have only recently come back onto the scene because i bought a Switch!

Iirc I found it looking for info on Flash Carts. That was easily 15 years or more ago though.
(This isn’t my original profile, lost that one in a change of email provider/forgetting password f*up).

Have you thought of contacting a moderator for a password and email change on that profile?

I wish I did at the time, but it was about 4 years ago. I'd never remember the name I had for the profile, maybe the email address but thats a big maybe.

Heard about this place from a friend who said that state-of-the-art romhacking and console mods would be discussed here.

Lurked for a while, made an account because I wanted to learn more about the 3DS modding scene, stayed for all of the cool things here like the Wii and Switch stuff, great staff and cool news articles and reviews.

#GBATEMP was originally created as a temporary site to list all the scene releases of the Gameboy Advance roms. On the efnet IRC server, in the #gbaroms channel we would share all the roms via "fserves" (chat based file servers on irc). This site listed all the releases , and always had the latest 10 roms available for download. This dates back to late 2000 , early 2001. It's always funny to me to read "this site does not condone piracy" "go elsewhere for romz" "we only care about homebrew", when this site was built on piracy since day 1, has been offering tools, FAQs and general help about circumventing DRM since its inception. The "homebrew" excuse is seriously a joke. In all my years of running copied content, never did I see a piece of homebrew that was world changing and that I absolutely needed in my life. The first console copier I owned was a "Doctor V64" (a n64 copier) and have bought 10 or less console games every since.

I came here , 18 years ago or more, because of piracy, and I am here still today , because of piracy.

when i got introduced to NDS homebrew/piracy shortly before i found this place i even remember my first flashcart was a CycloDS then with Bannerbomb for Wii i became active asking questions bout brew and console hacking in general tbh i DID break the no asking for warez rule way back in the day on irc but i have since wised up even though i made a foolish mistake and responded to a bot's post on forum and got 1 warning i feel other than those 2 incidences I have been a model forum user (could be wrong but i feel i did good until the warning), but nobody's perfect not even the mods they like I probably made some poor choices in life it's what we call conform and learning from one's mistakes

Think I stumbled across here when I got my ezflashIII and was looking for and ezmanager update. I’ve become more active later when the Psp came out and then again when I got a new 3ds. I’ve always come and gone. Now I’m here for the switch. There is a lot of good helpful resources here.

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.
  • AncientBoi @ AncientBoi:
    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
  • cearp @ cearp:
It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space

Nor clothes 🤮 . Saves on time, soap, water and money having to wash them. :D
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@rqkaiju2, Physical media is a great source for archiving your data, none of that cloud storage shiz.
